Praise good behaviour. Encourage your child when he/she shows an interest in something. When speaking to your child, always use eye contact to show that you are interested in what they have to say. If they do something well, perhaps buy them a small treat or let them choose an activity to do. Never shout at them, try to be calm and explain to them the consequences of their actions if they have done something wrong. Show your child that you respect them and they will find it easier to respect you. Children need to feel loved, and by showing and telling them this every day, this will help boost their self-esteem.
