It's been awhile since I entertained the idea of becoming one, so I suggest you google "professional genealogist certification" for up to date information on the process. If memory serves, the National Assn of Genealogists is the organization that does the certification. The coursework (done by mail and takes about a year to complete) is rigorous and isn't cheap. In addition to the enrollment fee that 10 years ago was around $400, you have to have certain "textbooks" (for lack of a better word), some of which can be borrowed from good libraries and some that can only be purchased. Good luck!
