Are parents responsible for teaching their kids what the 'bad words' are?
When watching tv, my 5-year-old nephew would immediately notice if a character curses. That means he is familiar with the bad words at this early stage in his life.
Definitely, 'yes'. We parents use some bad words in front of them regularly for various reason and the children pick it up. Though they do not understand the meaning but use them at an appropriate situation just by following the actions and reactions of their parents. The worst part is we use wrong words and the little ones learn it but in their ignorant stage when they use such words we parents prefer to scold them instead of mending our own ways.
@shampa - ok..when i was a kid, we did not have any knowledge of what the bad words are, we just learned it from other kids in school or TV. our parents did not really teach us that. my nephew and her mom is very open to those kinds of things and glad to have read about your own experience which is similar. thanks for your insight.
Yes. Children should hear the TRUTH from their parents first, even when it comes to bad words. It brings a certain trust into the family. When they hear the truth from school or their teachers, they begin to doubt their family and parents. They become more withdrawn and it causes plenty of issues in the teenage years because they do not believe their parents are very valuable except for money or security purposes.

It truly amazes me when overprotective parents lament how immature and irresponsible their adolescent and/or near adult children are. Didn't they realize that they were partly responsible by their intrusive and controlling parenting in making their children childish, puerile, and...

I posted this on the 'questions' area but I think it's easier to have discussions in the forum. So my question was, have your kids ever accused you of not loving them because you wouldn't let them do something or you didn't buy something for them? Please be specific. One of my friends kids accused him...

A little background..https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nat … ?gnt-cfr=1This should not be so rare, as I would prefer it to occur far more than it does. This needs to happen every time a minor obtains a weapon from an adult who did not consider the circumstances regarding the personality of...

Do you think parents are trying too hard to be friends with their kids instead of actual parents?i don't think parents should be friends with their kids but rather be parents who show their kids what is right and wrong.

If so, how should merit be determined?
