   Reading to our young, what do you suggest is the best books?
   
   If It is not enough to simply teach children to read; we have to give them something worth reading.. what would you suggest children should start reading?
   I know if really depends on the age but starting at 5 years of age.

   I think it is great to see those that still read to the young.  They are at an age where you can read chapter books to them.  Not complicated one, but one that  I think kids enjoy is Hoot by Carl Hiaasen.  Really good book. I think they will enjoy the book a lot.  I have recommended this book numerous times and families love it.  Other ways to help children with reading is through reading games.  There are many that will help with comprehension and fluency.

   For kids, reading from an age earlier than age 5 is good because it encourages the kids to try to read for themselves from an early age.  The books you can read to kids are ones with funny, short and memorable sentences. Some of these books are by authors such as Dr. Seuss, Shel Silverstein and Roald Dahl.  There are other books out there like the Little Golden Book Classics series which are great too.

   I recently wrote a hub on how early to start a child reading and mentioned that it starts at birth (and even before).  However, the books must be age appropriate so that the child is able to relate and enjoy the book. The topics and types are so vast these days and it a visit to the local library would help  a parent see what is offered in each section of the children's department.  I believe Scholastic has the best book offers and quality reading. Dr. Suess is really good as a start due to the sing-song rhythm of the words.
