Absolutely. All couples we Coach and even in our book Marriage for Today (www.marriagefortoday.com) we specifically and HIGHLY encourage every couple to dedicate and schedule in a Marriage or Family night.
If you're married and have kids, this is especially important as that children will take most of your time - not a negative thing per se (ours is the best daughter in the world and ads pure joy to our life) but regardless, you as a couple NEED time just by yourselves.
We often explain that even if you can't get "out" (which we recommend if at all possible) then after the children are asleep, the house is YOURS!
As long as your children are "trained" properly, you should not have repeated unnecessary interruptions.
If you don't have children, then it's much more simple - yet vital. Make your marriage your priority and it will succeed.
If... you are expressing family night that pertains to your WHOLE family, then again - yes!
The main issue is this - you must FORCEFULLY fight for your marriage and family time. It rarely ever just comes together on the fly. Life is too fast, too stressfull and too busy. You must schedule and keep to your day/night/time.
Btw, business is marriage's #1 killer. So, make time for your marriage and you will grow closer!
