I usually visit my parents every weekend. I live relatively close and go back to my home town every weekend for church, so that makes it easier.
My father is my only parent now... I wish that had visited my mother more before she passed away in '99 of cancer -- many a time do I regret my neglect!
Visit them while you have the chance!
My father and I do not see eye to eye on many issues, but the regret of not visiting my mother more made me push beyond ego in the attempt to reconcile with my father. It's worked, and despite our differences we now enjoy great repport. I visit Indy at least twice a year, and may be going up soon to work with him.
It's been over ten years. My mother is an evil doer and I must protect my family. Sounds terrible huh? Actually I have been much happier, kinda miss my dad but he's an enabler, and a connection to the evil one.
I speak to my mother every day almost. Some weeks we see each other once or twice, others almost every day. We often go on holiday together. My father died when I was seven and I've feared losing my beloved mother every day since.
very touching story earthscribe. I used to visit my parents every weekends but since i got a new apt i only get to visit every other week, and sometimes once a month. Its because i want to save money so i can give more to them.
I visit my parents every week or as much as I can. Sometime busy work gets in the way, but I try to get time out of my schedule to see them. I feel sorry for my mom though, because my grandmother lives on the other side of the world. Last time she went back to her hometown was 7 years ago. I guess I'm lucky to have her so close. I work in Gulf and i am able to visit my parents only once in 2 years. I really miss them.
I live in Maine and most of my family lives in North Carolina 1,000 miles away.
Both of my parents have been divorced for some time now, I try to visit my mother at least once a year if not more. However my father is a very strict individual who doesn't approve of my wife or step children. I try to avoid even his phone calls because they are usually along the lines of "I need to leave my wife and move back home." I believe this comes from the fact that his father was the same way which resulted in the divorce of my parents. However I won't let him influence my life like his father did so I don't visit him. If he can't accept my new family then he doesn't need to see us. I personally am happy with my family now and believe I am better off without him. However on my wife's side I see her parents on an almost daily basis.

If your father (or mother) lied to you, and it ruined your life, would you ever speak to them again?

I believe that the oldest child in a family have the toughest and roughest path to go. He/she was automatically dethroned upon the birth/births of a successive sibling/siblings. He/she is often held to a higher and stricter standard than his/her younger siblings, ...
