What is the biggest lesson to be learned from growing up with siblings of the opposite sex?
The biggest lesson learned from growing up with siblings of the opposite sex is keep your favorite toys hidden! However, as we grew up it was easier to pick up dates with my sisters hanging around. You learn to see things from different perspectives and how to attribute those lessons in future relationships.
The biggest one was that we were very comfortable with the other sex. My sister and I had boys around us all the time and knew how to react to them. We did not get all stuttery and could even discuss their favorite sports. The worst thing we learned was that he was a bully and we learned that if we ganged up on him, we could take him down. The bullying stopped. Of course, we had to tie him up and go get his best friend to calm him down before we let him loose.
I guess what I learned from my brothers was how a guy can lie and turn tables so quick and actually get away with it but, they don't like it when it is done to their little sisters! ???
What did I learn? That men and women are two different species who do not see eye to eye. Growing up with a sibling of the opposite sex made me realize how much I wanted a sibling of the same sex in the house.
If you're the youngest, how to avoid being the rubber band gopher during rubber band wars (it took me a while to realize that running out to collect the rubber bands during the war wasn't the "best" role in the game!) But, seriously, how to be friends with the opposite sex. My brothers are still my best friends!
I learned not to hit like a girl. lol. No I'm completely not joking. My brother would beat the living crap out me. Till one day I was crying I went to my mom, she saw all the bruises on me and she'd had enough, she worked 3 jobs so she couldn't always be there, so she balled my fist up an and told me to "punch him".
After we came back from the emergency room he had a broken nose, and my bruises cleared up nicely. Fair fight from then on out. XD
Not to be around when they were shooting the BB guns. Got hit a few times and it hurt like heck. And yes, they were trying to hit me! Seven brothers and seven sisters for me! I always got stuck sleeping with the sibling that peed the bed too! UGGGGGGGG!
Even until this day you have to be nice and mean when needed because family can walk over you. Also always have each others back in even before tragedy strikes.

My theory is that most people seem to like whatever place they've ended up with among their siblings. Most also do seem to have a few minor gripes about it. Without considering anything you've ever read in books about birth order, what's your own personal take on your own place in the...
