   is it possible to get pregnant while breastfeeding?
   
   i always thought it's not possible but now i hear from different people that it happens.. Does it only happen if you get your cycle while feeding?

   I breastfed three out of four of my babies. During childbirth classes I was taught that you could get pregnant while breastfeeding. Breastfeeding may stop you from cycling, but its not a guarantee. If you started to cycle you would become pregnant without realizing it.

   i breastfed my last child,i did'nt have a period until he was 8 mos. old.(i breastfed until he was 13mos) even then it was still unpredictable,i did foolishly  do the deed wo protection,luckily i did'nt get knocked up! i said that because 6 is enough,amen!

   Yes it is possible. While I was still breastfeeding my eldest, I became pregnant again. I think it depends on the person.

   Yes you can!  There are many amazing reasons to breastfeed, but breastfeeding as a form of contraception isn't necessarily one of them. read more

   The answer is definitely yes you can!
   
   I have four teenagers.  I breastfed all of the babies (very happily, I might add).  I was active in Le Leche League and we were taught that breastfeeding is not a form of birth control!  Some women have managed to stop ovulating, but it requires no supplemental feeding for the child at all.  Mine started eating when they started reaching for food I was eating.  I nursed all four and they all weaned themselves.  The flavor and quality of your milk can change with pregnancy and the babes all started to look at other things, like cheerios and soft chewy things like my applesauce, even reaching their little fists out and smearing it all over me at a dinner at my Auntie's house. 
   
   I never even had a period between two babies.  So you don't have to have your period return to get pregnant.  I hope this helps!

   Whomever and Wherever this uban legand came to pass is unknown, however....you CAN and WILL get pregnant while breastfeeding. In fact you CAN get pregnant after a 6 weeks or so from giving birth.
   
   SO USE PROTECTION, if you are not ready for the next one.

   It happened to my boyfriend's mom. It happened to a woman at my job. The truth is, if you're sexually active at ALL, you can get pregnant. The condom could break or slip off, the birth control could not work or be accidentally skipped altogether, or in my friend's ex's case, the sperm could be so determined to get to that egg that it blasts through every contraceptive known to man. Breastfeeding CAN lower your chances, but it does NOT eliminate them.

    People quite often misunderstand how breastfeeding and getting pregnant works.
    
    Basically, if you are breastfeeding, you don't ovulate because of elevated prolactin and cannot get pregnant. This is why women don't have their period for a certain period of time while breastfeeding.
    
    BUT, in one moment, when you decrease the amount of breastfeeding, the level of prolactin drops, which triggers ovulation and the period follows. If you happen to have intercourse during this first ovulation, you can get pregnant.
    
    So, even though you might not have period, doesn't mean you are 100% safe from getting pregnant.

       Absolutely! I got pregnant with # 2 while breastfeeding #1, and #3 while pregnant with #2.  In those cases I had returned to work and was nursing part time, formula part time.

    It is possible to get pregnant while breastfeeding--about 6% of nursing women will ovulate before their first postpartum period, however ecological breastfeeding has a 99.6% non-pregnancy rate so long as menstruation has not returned. 
    
    A far majority of women who report having gotten pregnant while nursing were not really nursing on demand, day and night and exclusively.  This means no bottles or pacifiers.  I nursed my daughter using this method and did not become fertile until she was 13 months old, when I began to wean her. 
    
    Of course, if you have a serious reason to avoid pregnancy, like you seriously feel like you can't have another one yet, you can use Natural Family Planning too avoid pregnancy.  check out my Hub, Introduction to NFP ofor more information!
