The traditional family model is redundant today. Is it not?
This is a great question although maybe phrased a bit controversially! But yes, with half of marriages ending in divorce, the traditional family is definitely challenged. Also with gay marriage gaining acceptance I believe traditional "Leave it to Beaver" types of marriages will have to share the world with more nontraditional set ups. To me this is a good thing in that it will save suffering from people who are in poor relationships be that husbands, sons, daughters or wives; and also for people who are pansexual and who do not fit into the rigid molds of male/female/hetero modes of society. We live in an exciting time of acceptance where new stories will be written, possibly new terms will need to be coined, and where there is still room for traditional families as well!
In some respect however, it doesn't take away what family should be about. What I am speaking of is the purpose of family. Whether it is embraced or not, family original design will always produce best results.
be blessed...
Purpose of family:
Maybe to start a basketball team?
Extension of oneself through one's progeny?
Whoops! Accident! forgot to take the BC powder!
What is family original design?
I would say that while it isn't redundant, it is less common. This of course is all attributed to progress and the fact that unlike our parents, we try to focus more on making ourselves happy to provide a better family environment.
Of course this is done not out of selfishness, but because invariably after observing our parents, we have realized that in some instances it is better for everyone (kids included) in the long run if the "traditional model" is foregone for happiness.
No, it actually has to do more with density dependent birth rates. Urbanization discourages women to have a family.
Traditional family is redundant because we are transitioning into a service based economy.
As the manufacturing economy transitions to a service economy characterized by outsourcing, and globalization, the family is transitioning from nuclear, to bachelor, single parent, and childless.
Single individuals live and work in the city and comprise the bulk of the work force.
Family type corresponds to a particular type of economy. Clan with hunter/gatherer; extended patriarchal family with agriculture; traditional nuclear family with industrial. Service-single family or bachelor.
'Monkeyminds' seems to know what it's all about and that is the beginning of the end of humanity and the beginning of cloning. At least that's what it feels like. Maybe that's why so many madmen are shooting people down so often and so easily; lack of a proper family environment which includes both (harmoneously united) parents.
What's it's all about? The OP was:
The traditional family model is redundant today. Is it not?
Redundant:
being in excess; exceeding what is usual or natural: a redundant part.
Humans are natural, are we not? This is a natural process.
I perceived redundant as no longer necessary. Oops! Anyway, traditional family is necessary and not in excess. And because families are no longer functioning as they should, I believe, there are many problems in society.

Used to be that a family was a husband, a wife and children. The two were married, kids grew up, got married etc. Now, it is all too common for simply co-habiting. Changing partners, same sex relationships and so on. Committment is waning, or weak. Even governments are finding it tough to keep up,...

This morning, my daughters, grandkids, and I are making our annual Christmas Eve visit to a local nursing home to pass out candy. The residents love seeing children. Then we're taking my elderly aunt out for lunch. Then we're putting out food for all the neighborhood critters. Later, all these good...

What is the scariest childhood memory, which still sticks with you today?I was about four or five years old when a lightening storm woke me up and my brother took me to a rocking chair in the living room, near the front door. As he was attempting to rock me back to sleep, the wind busted open...

Do you think the economy can be linked to increased instances of DUI and Divorce?
