   None of the above. Give him a baseball bat or a basketball. Anything that can indulge him to physical activities. Kids these days need to workout and spend more time outside in my opinion.

      Thank you for replying here. He is under Badminton coaching and is very active in out door activities. He has requested for that actually. Either and Or option LOL. And I am complete clueless.

      let's set aside the negatives of gaming..There are some good games exclusive to Xbox...ask your kid what games he is interested about..he above all knows what he wants..surprise him...if he said he wants an XBOX..place your gift on a PS3 box..haha

      You are right. But as we both are working parents and he is single child so he remains alone at home after his school and outdoor activities. That is the concern as he requested for that. Though his plate is quite full with Guitar and Badminton class

   They are probably the worst gifts immaginable, designed to create couch potatoes.  Try buying him an oil painting set, writing gear, or books, all non-passive pastimes.

      Thanks for your response. You are true. But he don want to remain at home. And prefers to play all the time with his friends out side. That is the concern.

   It seems that everyone is against these electronic demons (and if played 24:7 then I can see the point). However, if regulated sensibly, I don't see the problem as they are 21st century toys for a 21st century boy. As you have mentioned he obviously gets 'running around' time with badminton and friends and we all need a bit of down time to relax. Personally, I may be slightly biased as I have a son of about the same age with one of these - btw he also plays on a football team, at a tennis club, does karate and spends alot of time at the park with friends. Is it SO bad that he plays electronic games too?
     As to which I would recommend. I would go with what the majority of his friends have as they can share games and if you go for the Xbox Live or PS3 Online option they can play online with their friends too. Xbox is the popular choice around us but again, it is probably best to check out what his friends have. Good luck

      Many thanks for your response here. His Birth day was on 21st Nov. We have decided on PS3 as his friends also has that. I do agree with you here.

   It all depends on the choice of the boy. Some might prefer x-box while others PS3.
   
   Better ask the boy first and if you want to surprise him just gift him both!!
