It wasn't that long ago that I was in high school. I graduated in 2005, nine years doesn't seem so long to me. I don't remember the girls I went to school with dressing like street walkers. Did I miss it when I was in school? Did I not see all the skankiness? Or did something change in nine years?

exactly this. I wore some pretty over the top things in my younger days and I grew up to be a fine, upstanding citizen. Imagine that. :) We do a lot of silly stuff in our youth. The big hair for us was the regretful one lol early 90's here
I would argue that if women are being truly empowered, they would feel less pressure on these issues.
If beauty is in the eye of the beholder why not just walk around naked?
Some have gotten more strict with what is approved in today's school
Foodeee, Some people do walk around naked! :-)
There has always been some infighting between women with traditional values and those who consider themselves to be more progressive. We see women knock other women on the red carpet for their gowns.
And all of it is great! Very thankful my generation got those styles back around the mid 90's!
I recall the 70's also and much of the fashion you speak of was not the norm for everyone. I will give you the short shorts. They left nothing to the imagination. Most of them weren't tight but they were super short.
Foodee I don't know where you lived, but these were all the norm where I lived and it was not in the cities. Yes we also had short shorts and hot pants. Also Stacks and halter tops and dresses.
