Best Jumperoo for Baby
Baby Jumpers to Entertain and Exercise Your Little One can be a Mom's Best Friend
The busy parents of growing babies have relied on a Jumperoo or baby jumper to keep the little one entertained and exercised, so they can take a few minutes for meal preparation, dressing, and all those other necessary chores that are tough to do with a wiggly baby in your arms!
Colorful interactive toys that dangle within his arm's reach keep your baby amused and learning, developing and practicing his ability to grasp and hold, while the physical activity of spinning, bouncing and jumping helps him to develop large motor skills in safety, right there in the jumperoo where you can keep an eye on him.
No question, a brand-name Fisher-Price Jumperoo or activity center is one of the most welcome gifts the parents of a new baby can receive! But what is the real difference between the different types of jumperoo, and what is the best jumperoo for you to buy?
Top 3 Fisher-Price Jumperoo Styles
Most Popular and Top-Rated Baby Jumpers by Fisher-Price
The top 3 places on our "best baby jumpers" list all go to Fisher-Price, for years one of the most trusted brands of baby products in North America. In fact, three different models take the prize of parental approval right now: Rainforest, Luv U Zoo, and Laugh and Learn Jumperoo.
#1 Fisher-Price Rainforest Jumperoo
Rainforest is the most popular Fisher-Price Jumperoo right now, and no wonder! Parents love the soft covering on the springy bits, the variety of toys (too bad there's no mirror, but otherwise all kinds of sensory-exploration toys, plus lights and sound), the washable seat cover, and the high back on the seat that helps to stabilize Baby for greater safety and security while he's playing.
Best Jumperoo for 2014 - Fisher-Price Rainforest Jumperoo
In the photograph above, you get a closer look at the fun bright fabric on the Rainforest Jumperoo, the green music-play bar (removable), and some of the toys that come with it, like the animal-themed spinner and (my favorite) the cute blue elephant. You can just see a bit of the yellow monkey and red parrot toys, as well.
Jumping will activate the rainforest music and lights, while a spinning seat lets your baby reach and explore the toys that are all around and overhead. For example, there's a drum that starts up lights and sounds when Baby spins it - or you can activate it yourself to run for 4 minutes.
This baby jumper has three positions for a custom height adjustment. It takes 3 "AA" batteries (not included) to run the toy tray. Assembled, the Rainforest jumperoo is approximately 32" wide x 37" deep. Gotta love the Rainforest Jumperoo - the most popular and top-rated Jumperoo by Fisher-Price since its launch, and still our first choice!
#2 Fisher-Price Luv U Zoo Jumperoo
Fisher-Price Jumperoo with a Wild Safari or Zoo Animals Theme
Luv U Zoo is the second most popular jumperoo, and a lot of parents' choice on this just comes down to which model is the best fit for the nursery theme. By the way, big thanks to the Fisher-Price folks for putting on a switch that lets Mom turn off all the lights and sounds when you want a bit of quieter play!
#3 Fisher-Price Laugh and Learn Jumperoo
Baby Toys for Learning and Fun in a Farm Theme Activity Center
In my opinion, the Laugh and Learn model deserves to have more attention than its been getting, as it only comes in at number three on the most popular baby exercisers list. There are so many things for Baby to do in this farm-themed jumper - much more than just jumping and grabbing and exploring, there is all kinds of learning potential here in the shape-sorting toys and flip book that makes different sounds. Two different operating modes (Musical mode and Early Learning mode) give your baby two different ways to experience the exerciser.
Fisher-Price Floor-Standing Bouncers
are loved by most babies and parents, for good reason!
All babies are different, of course, and some are more active than others - but when you start comparing the Jumperoo reviews in detail, you'll come up with a few clear winners.
Our "old faithful" is the Ocean Wonders version of Fisher-Price Jumperoo (it goes with the bouncer chair all the kids in our family loved) but we got it several years ago and it's almost impossible to find now there are some new models that, in 2014, have become even more popular with parents.
Here I've rounded up the best ones you'll find available right now - the most popular brand-name Fisher-Price jumperoos, of course, but also some smart alternatives that may be a better fit for other families with more limited floor space- with notes about a few things to keep in mind when you're deciding what model to buy. I hope you find this helpful to you!
Oh - just a quick note on the Go Wild Jumperoo:
I've been getting a number of questions lately about the Fisher-Price Go Wild Jumperoo, mostly because of the bright variety of jungle-themed toys and the two modes (Music mode, and Early Learning with sing-along songs), but you won't find that model on my "best" list. Your experience might be different but a lot of moms find the toys are awkwardly placed for the baby's head and some of the toys even come right off too easily. The way I see it, there are so many super models of jumperoo, even Fisher-Price is allowed to have a bad design day - but The Go Wild model is one jumperoo I just can't recommend.
Different Colors, Different Themes - Which jumperoo is the best match for your home décor and nursery theme?
Is it a problem if the 3 best jumperoos all clash with your color scheme and decorating theme? I don't believe so. As mentioned, I'm still a big fan of the golden-oldie Ocean Wonders. (Babies don't know if it's the very latest model, after all - fun is fun, for a very young child.) Realistically, most of the other Jumparaoo models are very much like the most popular three styles I've already shown you and reviewed above. For the most part it is the colors and toys that are most obviously different.
That said, Fisher-Price does change some things from one product release to the next, such as the number of different settings there are for the seat height, and some take up a tiny bit more or less floor space.
For example, our good ol' Ocean Wonders and also the Discover 'n Grow model both to be a little bulkier than the newer models, but the Precious Planet is just slightly smaller than the very popular Rainforest so it may be the best choice if you have more limited space in your home. So you will want to check the product specs (listed on the details page for each jumper) and compare the prices before making a final decision.
But what about a Doorway Jumper?
A Better Fit for Small Spaces... but are they safe?
Raising an active baby in a small apartment can be a challenge at the best of times! And those wonderful free-standing jumparoo types do take up a certain amount of floor space. And if you're in a tiny apartment, you may simply not have the room... That's where the doorway hanging jumpers come in. Basically, if you've got an interior doorway, you've got enough space for a baby jumper of this type.
For many homes, wheree there is just not enough room for a floor model of activity center, a bouncer to hang in a door frame may be just the right solution. But - you need to be aware that the folks at Consumer Reports still have reservations about the safety of a doorway jumper:
The problem with door-frame jumpers is that the jumper's straps or clamps can break, allowing the apparatus to fall. Also, babies can bump into the sides of the door frame, either through vigorous jumping or when someone tries to swing them. It's easy to envision a family dog crashing into the jumper as well... That said, I haven't been able to find any safety-related recalls since a toy came off a Graco doorway jumper way back in 2009. You may also have noticed that some of the "parenting experts" who were trashing the doorway jumpers very loudly back in the mid-2000s have changed their tune and are now selling them on their own websites(!!) - so make of that what you will.
Jumperoo is a better choice when it comes to baby's safety.
Consumer Reports recommends a stationary or jumperoo type of baby jumper, instead of a doorway jumper, and I am inclined to agree. I'm pretty sure my mother had a doorway jumper for me when I was a baby, but times have changed and we know a lot more now about raising babies than we did back in the day.
Jumperoo wins out - for both fun and safety
As I mentioned, the Fisher-Price Ocean Wonders model has kept the infants in our extended family very happy for a couple years now - and I've had more than one offer to buy it, so it seems there's a good resale value, too! But since it is not a current model, I've had to look for a good replacement and the best I've found, the closest match for baby's experience, is the Laugh and Learn model. It's not at the very top of the best-selling jumperoos for 2014, as Amazon shows the stats the Discover 'n' Grow is slightly more hot in terms of sales compared to the Laugh and Learn that's in my Top 3 list, but hey, it's my list. :) From my perspective, the Laugh and Learn comes in a close third-best after the very popular, well-thought-out Luv U Zoo design and the hands-down winner, the Rainforest Jumperoo.
The Best Jumperoo for a Growing Baby's Safe and Active Fun and Learning - Fisher-Price Rainforest Jumperoo
The last time I checked, Amazon was offering not only a lower price on the best-selling Rainforest model but also they had a deal for "free shipping" and will ship to "select countries" outside the United States. I did the math for shipping to Canada and it worked out cheaper than buying locally, believe it or not! You might be as lucky, depending on where you live and what the exchange rates are right now... Just don't forget to get a package of three "AA" batteries (not included) because, if you're anything like us, you and Baby will want to try out the Jumperoo the very minute it arrives at your door!
