Clyde Martin's Family History

Updated on September 6, 2016

I'm carrying on my mother's research into our family history. I've self-published some family memoirs & learned a lot about different eras.

Pioneer Kansas Family

My dad, Clyde Owen Martin, is the subject for my mom's second book. Some of my essays and my sister Cindy's are included as well. While compiling my mom's writing and research into the book, I uncovered some family history that was new to me. We also turned up some vintage family pictures that I'd not seen before.

It's the story of a hardworking midwestern family man and oilfield worker. He was one of eight children that grew up on a farm in Kansas. His background includes Kansas pioneer families. To get the whole story, I recommend that you get Dad's book. Click on the book cover below or go to Blurb to order it.

In this lens, I'll share some of the photos, information and family tree with you.

Clyde Martin's Family Tree

Clyde's mother worked on the family genealogy for many years. After her death, his wife, Gail Lee Martin, took it up and pursued it diligently. Now my sister and I have taken on the challenge of tracing the Martin/Kennedy/Joy families even further back.

You can get lovely family tree charts to display your genealogy research.

Clyde Martin's Favorite Authors

He's a big fan of westerns, but reads widely. When he's not watching baseball on TV, he probably has a vintage book in his hand, rereading a Zane Grey for the fifth time. He read B.M. Bower and Louis L'Amore too.

Collecting Lincoln Books - Clyde Martin's Bookshelf

Dad's interest in Abraham Lincoln started when he was a child. His grandmother had a book that greatly impressed him. Over the years Dad collected books about Lincoln and read them all.

@AlleyCatLane: I'd love to see a lens about your father. It's a great way to preserve family memories.

I don't think my line of Martins came through Iowa, so probably no relation to your ex. That's an extremely common last name.

Sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. My father passed mid May this year. I have been thinkin g of doing an article on him. I wonder if your line has any ancestors in common with my ex. His Martin family was from Riverton, Iowa.
