Custom Board Books for Babies (How to Make)

Updated on October 13, 2013

Why Make Customized Board Books?

Two of my favorite things for teaching my young children have been books and photos! So naturally, I wanted to combine my photos with custom stories to teach my children everything from family members' names to daily routines and prayers. The books make excellent keepsakes, but are also fantastic for pre-reading skills. Simply written stories along with pictures featuring baby (and baby's family members) are sure to be favorite books in childhood, and later in adulthood.

make great keepsakes for yourself or as a gift. Make them to preserve memories, instill values, teach good habits or tell a story.

My Daughter's Custom "I Love You" Board Book

At age one, my youngest daughter learned our Beagle's name - Beanie. But, suddenly every dog in the world was "Beanie" even our dog "Spike." So in her custom "I love you" photo board book, I put pictures of all her family members, including both dogs. Underneath Beanie it said "I love you Beanie" and underneath Spike it said "I love you Beanie (aka Spike)." That's a great way for me to document memories, and remember them myself as well as have funny little stories to tell my daughter as she gets older. You can't get that from a store bought "I Love You" board book.

The surprising thing is, I was able to purchase the final product for around $14 (not much more than a nice store bought board book).

can be given to parents at a baby shower, or at the hospital when baby arrives. They also make excellent birthday presents for baby's first birthday, or other special occasion.

Selecting the Right Custom Photo Book Printer is Important

No matter who you are creating a customized photo story or memory book for, you want it to last. If you're going to put the time and effort into making a custom story, you want something that can't be ripped easily. Babies drool, teeth, and bend books. And parents want keepsakes to last, even if they are kept in a special place.

My favorite place to purchase custom photo books from is ArtsCow.com. First, let me disclose that the ArtsCow.com online photo book creation tool is a little clunky (and not user friendly to learn to use) and it takes FOREVER to get your order shipped to you because they are based out of China. However, if you have more than a month to wait for your custom photo book order to arrive, they have extremely low prices and their finished products are some of the best I've seen. No other company currently offers a hardbound 4x4 photo board book that matches the quality of this finished product.
