15 Luscious Eco-friendly Baby Gifts 10 Dollars or Less
Looking for inexpensive green baby gifts?
On this page you'll find fifteen beautiful, hand-picked eco-friendly baby gifts ten dollars and under.
Most of them, I've given to my own children and grandchildren. They're kid tested!
It's easier than ever to give green and fair trade to the wee ones in our lives. In recent years, eco-friendly, earth-friendly, green and fair trade gift items exploded onto the market.
Socially responsible companies know we are looking for these products, and they are working to bring more and more to us all the time.
Increased competition makes for some very good bargains right now, a plus for those of us struggling to keep hold of our incredibly shrinking pocketbooks.
Variety is better than ever, too: Organic cotton onesies, bamboo and soy yoga pants and tops, trendy toddler rompers and dresses--so many to choose, so little time.
And the toys! Oodles of colorful fair trade toys, dolls and teethers made from sustainably harvested wood and organic, hand-picked cotton are available at ever more competitive prices.
So to keep our favorite low-priced, high value eco-gifts straight, I've made a list of a few of my favorites. This article spotlights eco-friendly gifts we love to give to our children and their friends having babies. All are 10 dollars and under, or were on the day I added them to the list.
Have fun choosing something wonderful for that new little cuddle bug in your life.
Prices fluctuate, so some of these may slip over $10 now and then. I'm always checking for bargains, tho, and update frequently.
1. Organic cotton veggies and fruit teethers
We have several of these, and I'd like to buy the whole kit and kaboodle for our most recent grandchild, who is at that curious and curiouser stage of development. She tastes everything.
These safe, non-toxic, certified organic fruit and veggie toys are fun and hands-on, providing plenty of opportunity to teach the wee ones in your life about the foods they are beginning to eat as they discover the difference between toys and the real thing.
Made of 100% organic super soft Egyptian cotton, the toys are entirely free of pesticide residues and safe for your wee ones to nosh and nibble to their gums' content.
What's more, according to the manufacturer, Under the Nile, their products are not produced in sweat shops:
"The farm that grows our cotton and makes our apparel focuses on fair trade and provides a worldwide model community for organic agriculture along with a supportive work place." Machine wash and dry.
2. Dandelion Organic Squeaker - Plush velour
You may find you love the Dandelion line of organic cotton toys and rattles as much as we do. Every one as cute as the next.
Your little one can learn hand-eye coordination safely with this organic cotton squeakie toy in all-natural dyes.
GreenTip: Alternative #1 to one-use gift wrap
Wrap or fold your baby gift items in an organic cotton receiving blanket and tie with a color-coordinated fabric ribbon.
3. Reversible organic cotton bib - by American Apparel
So darn cute! These reversible bibs are big enough to catch plenty of spit-up, drool and learning-to-eat spills. Great for teething babies, as well as older babies who haven't quite got the hang of getting food directly from the bowl to the mouth and keeping it there.
Available in five bright colors, as well as white.
We used these from four months to eighteen months with one of our granddaughters a few years ago. They went through the washer and dryer multiple times a week, and they're still good as new and getting plenty of use with her baby sister. So absorbent and much softer than a lot of baby bibs.
4. Easy-grasp Infinity Teething Rattle by Green Sprouts
Twisty-turny beads catch your little one's eye and help develop hand-eye coordination.
The soft, rubbery figure eight is BPA, PVC, Nitrosamine and phthalate free and easy on her gums.
5. Cuddle the little one in this stylish organic cotton teddy bear blanket
American Baby Company makes these darling huggy blankets.
Treat the little one in your life to the luxurious softness of safe, pesticide-free organic cotton.
6. Your darling is safe with this pesticide-free Bumble Bee teething ring
This soft-textured teething ring has been a favorite of so many moms and dads I know.
This easy to grasp yellow toy in soft terry is dyed with natural pigments free of heavy metals. Manufactured by Under the Nile from organic cotton grown and hand-picked in Egypt under Fair Trade guidelines.
Easy care: Machine wash delicate; tumble dry low.
7. Infant Swaddleme in organic cotton, so you know it's safe and soft
Keep your swaddled infant cool on hot summer nights with this soft, summer-weight, organic cotton in a cheery dot pattern.
Has a leg pouch for easy night-time diaper changes, and a harness slit for the travel carrier. Plus, it's packaged in a pretty organza bag.
GreenTip: Alternative #2 to one-use gift wrap
Tuck a pair of rolled up booties in a newborn cap, pinch top together like a sack, and tie with reusable cloth ribbon
8. Pair the swaddle blanket with these sweet organic caps
Rest easy with your little one, knowing that no tykes were employed--or worse, forced to work--in sweatshops to make these super soft caps.
Made of lightweight 100% certified organic cotton, they fit comfortably around the forehead.
9. Snug 100% organic cotton booties stay on tiny, kicking feet
These little booties are so cute--and practical. Made from ultra-soft 100% certified organic cotton.
Comfy ribbed cuff at ankle helps keep them snug on baby's feet.
Plus, they are made right here in the United States!
10. Organic cotton romper
Hudson Bay is almost as well known for its organic cotton baby clothing as Under the Nile, and is frequently available at a more competitive price point.
Pretty cream and pastel rompers in 100% organic super soft cotton with adorable applique-embroidery motifs.
Snaps around the inner legs make for quick diaper changes. Machine washable.
11. Pick up the pace with these colorful newborn outfits by Hudson Baby
Bored with pastels? I love the trendy colors from this company. If you're looking for richer colors, Hudson has them.
The set includes color-coordinated onesie, pant and cap, all soft, 100 percent organic cotton, of course, with a cute little nature-inspired design to set them off. Yum.
12. Organic Egyptian Cotton Sherpa Pocket Doll
Made of extremely soft, durable, organic Egyptian cotton, this colorful teething buddy is a delight for your little one.
Feel good about the pesticide-free processing of the toy, as well as the fact that the cotton was grown and the toy is manufactured in compliance with fair trade practices. No sweat shops or child labor involved.
13. Zoom, Zoom--Toddler Zoom by Camden Rose
We still have one of these wooden zoom-zoom cars in our collection of thirty-some-year-old toys.
You know what I like best about wooden treasures like this? Their scent--fresh wood and beeswax when they're new, then all the little hands that touched them over the years, mixing in the baking and soup smells.
Sure to become an heirloom, these little Zooms fit tiny hands perfectly. Inspired by Waldorf and Montessori and made by Amish in the US from locally-sourced cherry and birch, Zooms help toddlers develop hand-eye coordination as well as interactive play.
Toymaker Camden Rose says: "It is our responsibility to provide an environment that tells the story of our world honestly and at the same time protects that world."
14. Cuddly--and washable--organic crinkle book from Dandelion
Catch your tyke's attention with the crinkly sounds embedded in this soft, organic cotton book.
It's a teething, play toy today. As he grows, introduce counting concepts with three pages. The first shows one apple. The second shows two birds, and the third three cats.
Hang it within reach of Baby's grasping hands, attach it to a tummy-time pillow or crinkle it yourself to catch Baby's attention.
This organic cotton velour toy is soft to Baby's touch, with lots of chewable spots for teething. You needn't worry, either, because the dyes are low-impact. Machine washable.
Green tip: Recycle your newborn gift cards & wraps
Toss those pretty gift cards, ribbons and wrapping papers in a box with a sharp scissors, a sliding paper cutter, and a glue stick. Pull 'em out on a rainy Saturday and make your own one-of-a-kind cards and wraps. Your package will be a hit at the next baby shower!
15. Safe, organic, BPA-free teether and cuddle toy - Green Sprouts Organic Terry Circus Animal Teether
You get to choose between this cute tiger, a pretty-in-pink elephant and a green dancing bear--or get all three and change 'em up!
Organic cotton inside and out, with EVA teething rings attached. No phthalates, BPA or PVC chemical to leach into Baby's mouth, so you can be assured this toy is as safe as can be.
Which would you rather receive?
