What is the best piece of advice you have heard or been told?
'Don't sweat the small stuff, 'cause everything's the small stuff.'
There's an expression that I often use' if you give too much importance to anything it colours all else. Life is about balance and a broad perspective- not easy to achieve, but once you have you can see for miles and miles.
My grandmother told me to plan my life as if I would have no husband, if one came along it would be a bonus. Good advice because a person needs to be able to take care of oneself.
During a very dark period in my life, I was told that the greatest revenge is to live better than you did before. I don't know if this was the best piece of advice I have heard, but at the time it was one of the things that helped me to push forward.
To follow my heart, meaning to follow my instinct, my feelings. I am a very practical person so doing this is kind of interesting to say the least.
Everyone has obstacles in our lives throughout our whole life. My grandparents have always taught me that no matter what has happened to find something positive out of it. Sometimes I find myself feeling self pity on something going on and it might not be until years later, when I see a positive out of a situation that happened years ago. For this reason I came up with a lesson that I taught my kids and it works for all of us. I think that it is more of a mental thing....either way....I call it the 3 day rule. You have 2 days to feel sad, angry, depressed, whatever on the 3rd day you wake up knowing that today is going to be good and let go of the bad things. Most of the time we dwell on the bad and forget the good. Ask yourself can you change it? Most of the time you can not so we need to find something positive about it and if there is something you can do to fix it, get it done.
Of course when I hear people talking about how bad their life is I remind them this...........look around things could always be worse. Everything I think we have it bad..........look around and things start looking bright and we have a lot to be thankful for.

So, today someone told me that I looked like Alanis Morissette. I have heard this before and wondered if other people get told that they look like a well known person and what do you think about it? My picture is below.
