Baby Gifts Should be Age Appropriate

Finding a gift for a young baby can be a challenge, as you need to pick something that is age appropriate. Newborns spend most of their time sleeping and feeding. When baby is awake he needs things that can stimulate his senses and teach him to control his body and movements. By three months a baby can reach out and grasp things with the hands, move their arms and legs, lift the head and roll around. Keep this in mind when picking a gift.

Mobiles for Babies

Newborns see objects best when they are about 20 cm away. Although a newborn will not be able to focus on all the individual items on a mobile, they enjoy the movement and are stimulated to reach towards it to try and grab it. Young babies are believed to see with highly contrasting colours, so they would probably enjoy a black and white mobile as much as brightly coloured ones.

Amazon has a great selection of mobiles - many with musical features too.

Simple Toys

Babies under three months don’t need many toys. Choose something that is stimulating and can lead to learning, with no small bits that can come off. Toys should help develop the senses, so should be soft and graspable and make squeaking or rustling noises. They should also be safe for a baby to chew as he will probably try and put it near his mouth. There are plenty of beautiful brightly coloured toys perfect for a newborn.

Music and Singing

Babies can hear a full range of sounds as soon as they are born. Low pitched noises are soothing to babies and research has found that early exposure to music helps build connections in the brain, boosts IQ and can help improve general health and emotional bonding. Music gifts such as nursery rhymes are suitable for even young babies.

Gifts for Mother to Use on Baby

For a baby that is three months of age or under, the best gifts are often things that the new mum will enjoy using on her baby. Clothing, bibs, personalized blankets, organic baby skin care products, rattles and gift vouchers can all make great gifts. With clothing make sure you get the right size, or get something a little on the large size that they will grow into. If you are good at crafts, handmade presents for babies are always popular, whether they are hats, booties, blankets or cardigans. If you are not crafty then try the Etsy websites.

Choose black white or red toys or pictures so newborn visual senses are stimulated, or a mirror baby's love to look at themselves.

Well, I enjoy knitting so kids usually get something that is knitted. I currently have so many nice sweater sets, dresses and rompers knit that I'm going to be opening an Etsy store. (Now, that's a plug if I ever wrote one!) I also enjoyed the gifts that you featured!

Angel blessings for this great gift lens!
