Do You Know How to Find a Fairy?
Please tell us where the fairies live
If you know how to find a fairy, please let us know.
As a child I looked everywhere for fairies but never could I find one, now Claudia is on the fairy quest too.
Many a Sunday, Claudia and I have set off searching for signs of fairy life. We explore far and wide, in all the likely places, examining hints from fairy story books. Fairies prefer a particular habitat and so we keep a sharp lookout for any fairy-friendly spots
One day we'll find a fairy.
Where do you start? - When you're looking for a Fairy?
Some guidelines to finding fairies
Fairies are most commonly found in dells. Shady dells in particular (the shadier the better).
Keep an eye out for signs of fairy activity, such as fairy rings, circles of mushrooms which appear overnight.
If you're very observant you can sometimes catch, out of the corner of your eye, a trace of fairy glitter. Fairyshine is best seen just after sunrise.
When you catch a glimmer of fairyshine, turn slowly and squint along the lines of glitter. Follow these magical beams as far as you can.
One day we found a fairy tree - (but no fairies)
I found this tree when I was a small girl too - but it was bigger then.
The Fairy Tree
From 1931 to 1934, Miss Ola Cohn worked on a tree trunk in the Fitzroy gardens.
She carved delightful fairies, dwarves, gnomes, a kookaburra, koalas and a host of typical Australian animals and birds to transform the trunk into a thing of beauty.
Inscribed on the tree's plaque :
"I have carved in a tree in the Fitzroy Gardens for you, and the fairies, but mostly for the fairies and those who believe in them, for they will understand how necessary it is to have a fairy sanctuary - a place that is sacred and safe as a home should be to all living creatures."
We made a Fairy Garden - To Entice the Fairies
Fairies can see this little statue at night because it's solar powered
Could there be a Fairy under the Bridge?
Perhaps a troll lurks under here but Claudia isn't the least bit concerned about trolls. Trolls are scaredy-cats she says, they're frightened by goats. Obviously anyone who's afraid of a goat is not worth a second thought. .
We call out, quietly, to any fairy who may be under here.
Can we find a Water Fairy?
Like everyone who's had a sensible upbringing, I was warned about Water Fairies. Some of them are distinctly unfriendly.
Claudia and I don't look too hard near the water and we never look for fairies down the creek in snake season.
In the Creek? - Could a Fairy be in the creek?
There's something in the creek but it's not a fairy
We Read about Fairies - Looking for Clues
I remember this book so well. Real fairies, old fashioned fairies. No Disney celebrities here!
Claudia only needed a tiny bit of help to set up this little fairy haven
One day we found a little village - A Village for Fairies
Claudia believes these are Town Fairies. We want to find the Wild Fairies although a brief glimpse of an urbanised sprite would be very welcome.
Will we ever Find a Fairy?
Claudia hasn't given up hope of finding a fairy although it's been a long time now.
She has told me that even when I die, she will keep looking. Heavens, I certainly hope we can find a fairy before that!
One day we will find a fairy. I know this in my heart
How about you?
Have you ever found a fairy?
