Long Lasting Toys That Kids Actually Play With!
How Many Toys Have You Bought Only To See Them Pile Up Un-Played With?
Hi! Tired of toys that break and don't get played with? I don't blame you. I am always looking for long lasting toys that my kids will play with because they cost big money and 'money doesn't grow on trees', right?
I have three children 6 years old and younger, and between all three we have gone through hundreds of toys, and thousands of pieces of toys. And only a handful actually last and they keep playing with.
There are even fewer toys that get played with day after day. But after several years of dealing with birthday, Christmas, and gifts from the grandparents (and ourselves), I know what my kids will play with, and what lasts.
The picture to the left is an actual photo of used toys in two bins on our deck. That is just the tip of the iceberg!
The following list of long lasting toys that kids will play with are for children ages 6 and under (maybe even 7 or 8) because my children are all 6 and under at this time...

This Toy Will Last and Your Children Will Love It!
When I first saw the Plasma Car I thought I was looking at a protoype European toy that kids would never play with.
Grandma bought it on a whim and she surprised my son with it when he was just three. After a few goes he was gliding up and down the hall, through the living room, and then making exiting turns on a dime (more like a needlepoint), and sliding out with a huge grin and loud giggle every time.
"Look at me Daddy! Look at me!", he would say.
My daughters are also loving the Plasma Car as well and they all like it so much they fight over it. Fortunately we have two scooters and my son is good about giving it up and picking up a scooter so that he can race his sisters.
But we will be getting at least one more because recently, we attended an event and at this facility they had three Plasma Cars. They all hopped on them and spent almost the entire day on them, racing, bumping, and enjoying themselves.
This is a must have toy for any children ages three years and up (maybe two years old, but you'll have to see for yourself. You can always get it and keep it around until they are old enough).

They Will Keep Coming Back To This One And It's Educational Too!
I searched long and hard a few years ago for an educational building toy that didn't have lots of small parts (small parts are a curse for busy parents). I found several on Amazon, read the reviews, and I took a couple hours to make a decision.
It was hard but I finally pulled the trigger on Wedgits, and this was a good call because they are fairly well built, they last a long time (as long as they are not thrown on hard floors), and they are educational in the sense that young minds are engaged by building simple or advanced structures using these Wedgits.
Now you children won't spend hours with them, but they will spend their time on and off enjoying the towers and structures they build. They will come back to these over and over throughout the years. You'll find yourself helping and building along with them in the beginning. They are quite ingenious.
Tip: Get two deluxe sets if you can afford it. The small package is a good starter but you'll find that you need more, and the deluxe is good but again, you'll want more. They are worth the money.

Legos Are Always Mainstay, But Here's a Lego Buying Tip:
My son loves legos. Especially any of the lego kits that involve cars, trucks, Star Wars, or anything really cool looking. And my daughters have a bit of fun with them as well. There are plenty of girl targeted lego sets like LEGO Friends Heartlake.
My son loves the kits, and frankly I do to because we get to build them together. It's actually a lot of fun. But the problem is that he also likes to take them apart after we spend time putting them together and build something 'custom made'. Which is frustrating because I spent hours in some cases building the thing! But at the same time I don't want to deter his creative side so I let it slide.
So my lego buying tip is to buy a the LEGO Ultimate Building Set. You get 405 legos, but the assortment is very good. And at just $29 plus free shipping you can't beat that deal.
Secondly, you can look for used legos in bulk from Ebay or on Craigslist. I avoid craigslist because I don't like driving far and going to strange places, but now and then I bite the bullet. Anyway, there are tons of parents with tubs and bags of legos on eBay but you may have to pay shipping and when it's all said and done you could have gotten the Lego Ultimate Building Set for around the same price. But if you are vigilant you will find a really good deal on there once in a while.
Getting a tub of legos will save you money buying lego kits all the time, and your children can rummage through the legos and build whatever they want!

For little girls, there are few toys or games more fun and exciting than 'dressing up'. And a princess costume is ideal.
My daughter loves to dress up like a princess or a ferry several times a week and she has been doing it for quite some time now.
The Mellisa and Doug Princess Outfit is very good for the price and will last a long time.
Princess Outfit Tip: if you are good at sewing you can buy a sewing pattern and make one yourself as a back up or for a change of clothes.
The Mellisa and Doug outfit comes with a nice dress, crown, and wand. But you'll also want some shoes as well so I recommend shoes that are not just plastic because the cheap plastic ones will slip on tiles and hardwood floors, which freaks me out because I don't want my princess to brake a leg.
Best Long Lasting Toy For Kids #5:
My son loves Spiderman. And it turns out so do lots of boys his age. You can't go wrong with a Spiderman Outfit, but don't buy a really cheap one because the Velcro and stitching comes undone very quickly from all the wall climbing and chasing down bad guys.
As described above, you may want to try sewing one together yourself if that is something you are good at. But get the Spiderman Outfit listed here because it will probably look cooler, and use the one you make yourself as a back-up, or as a change of clothes.
Lately my son has migrated to a pirate stuff, so now we will be getting a pirate outfit. However, we did come up with our own temporarily by using an eye patch, a sword, and a hat.
The bottom line is that dress up isn't just for girls. It's fun for boys and girls. We even do a 'save the princess' spiderman skit and recorded it! That was a lot of fun. Which leads me to the next good long lasting toy that kids will play with over and over...

Kids Love To See Themselves...
Have you noticed how much fun kids have taking pictures of themselves and taking videos with your camera?
If you haven't experienced this yet, don't let them use your smart phone! We have had some trouble with dropped smart phones and fixing problems they created by playing with it it too much, including taking tons of pictures that we had to manually delete.
So we decided to get a kid friendly video camera. The cool thing about most kid friendly video cameras is that they also take photos and you can save some of the videos and pictures on a chip.
But not all cameras are the same...
Over two years ago we received a kids video camera as a gift, and we bought one ourselves. We got a Vtech and a Fischer Price. The Fischer price is hands down the best one because it's much more intuitive and easy to use. I even had trouble with the Vtech.
They both do more than just take videos and pictures. You can turn you pictures and videos into funnier videos and pictures with a few of the special features like putting a mustache or funny looking glasses on your face as you record or take a picture.
The Fischer Price Video Camera is well worth it and you kids will want to use it often.

Forget Training Wheels...
Training wheels are a thing of the past now. They were for those of us growing up in the 60's and 70's. And frankly, I am shocked that people still use them because the new way to learn how to ride a bike (and I mean how to learn to ride a bicycle SUPER fast) is to use what's called a Balance Bike.
I can't believe how quickly my son learned to ride a bike after using a balance bike. It only took him one week! And he liked the balance bike so much he would go back to it for fun now and then.
The other cool features of using a balance bike is that you don't have to worry about you son or daughter not being able to peddle. If you have training wheels you know what I mean. For example, when you son or daughter first starts to ride a bike with training wheels they will struggle to peddle, sitting down. They won't 'get it' right away, and you'll end up pushing them. And if you push them once, you'll end up pushing them a lot.
But with a balance bike they just sit down and push with their feet, and naturally learn how to balance. They will have fun the entire time!
If you want your kids to learn how to ride a bike, get a balance bike right now. The one listed here is a good quality bike that will be passed down, and you can even re-sell it for a good price through craigslist or eBay if you don't have anyone else who can use it.

If I had To Choose Two Toys This Is What I Would Get:
When I look for products or toys I often run across lists of recommend toys along with a brief review. But what I like to learn is what the author would pick if you twisted their arm and made them decide.
It's hard because I like all the toys above for different reasons, and I have more!
There are many toys that are worth your time and money to purchase. Even some that don't last long. And I have more toys to share with you, if you are interested (leave a comment below if you have any questions about inside or outside toys).
But If I had to choose I would the easy choice would be Toy #1 and Toy #7 above. But I own all of them and many more. Make sure you bookmark this page so that you stay up to date on my latest reviews and tips on toys (inside, outside, educational, and more!)
