Maclaren Quest vs Triumph

Updated on December 10, 2011

What's the Difference Between the Maclaren Quest and Maclaren Triumph?

Maclaren has been making fine umbrella strollers since the mid-1960s. They are high quality strollers, known for their maneuverability and light weight. The fact that these Maclaren strollers can also hold a child up to 50 pounds safely and comfortably ensures that you will be able to use these strollers for years to come.

However, sometimes the similarity of these Maclaren strollers can become confusing to consumers. Parents want to get their choice right the first time because these strollers are not cheap! Particularly confusing is the difference between the Quest and the Triumph, two very similar models. This lens will show you the similarities and differences between them so you can make the best choice for your family.

Maclaren Triumph Stroller

The more basic model

Many parents who want a lightweight umbrella stroller must wait until their babies are old enough to sit up on their own because umbrella strollers generally do not have reclining seats.

However, the Maclaren Triumph solves this problem by having a multi-position recline feature so that babies as young as three months old can lie comfortably and safely with the included 5-point harness.

These are the features of the Maclaren Triumph.

  • Multi-position reclining seat
  • Lightweight with carrying strap
  • Reflective accents for nighttime safety
  • One-hand collapse and fold
  • Lockable front swivel wheels
  • Storage basket under seat
  • Adjustable 5-point safety harness
  • Removable washable seat
  • Foot operated parking brakes

The following lists are a compilation of all the reviews that have been reported on sites such as BabiesRUs and Amazon.

Positives

  • Light weight and compact
  • Parents liked the recline feature
  • Light weight
  • Excellent for taking on vacations

Negatives

  • No parent drink holders
  • Insufficient sun canopy
  • Storage basket is too small
  • Heavy bags may cause stroller to tip over backward

Maclaren Quest Sport Stroller

The similarly featured Triumph has everything the Quest Sport has, however the Quest Sport has some extra features, and thus the more expensive price tag, about $40 more than the Triumph. You may find these features worth the extra price, if not you should consider the Triumph.

Features on the Quest Sport that not included with the Triumph:

  • Four-position reclining seat (Two more positions than the Triumph)
  • Reflective accents for night time safety
  • Peek-a-boo window on canopy above storage pockets
  • Seat extension for smaller babies

The Features in common with the Triumph and the Quest:

  • Lightweight with carrying strap
  • Storage basket under seat
  • One-hand collapse and fold
  • Rain covering included
  • Storage pockets on back of seat
  • Adjustable 5-point safety harness
  • Lockable front swivel wheels
  • Removable washable seat
  • Foot operated parking brakes

Based on the reviews submitted on sites like Amazon, Buzzillions, Baby GaGa and Consumer Search, the summary of advantages and disadvantages of the Maclaren Quest stroller are as follows:

Positives

  • Seat extender gives a full recline for an infant
  • Light weight and compact size when folded
  • Great stroller for taking to theme parks like Disneyland
  • Tall parents can walk with ease, no stooping or kicking the back

The triumph is a sweet machine. Our has take an absolute beating.

I don't think the few added features of the Quest justify the price. It would be nice to add the seat extender to the Triumph as that is the only feature that seems particularly useful. We got the Triumph.

The price is so vast between the two and reviewers say that the Quest really isn't worth it. The only thing I'd really be hesitant about giving up on the Quest is the seat extender for small babies.

I just reviewed the Quest, you can see it on my video above. I love it! The extra features are worth the $40 more you pay.

I have both a Triumph and a Quest, and in my opinion the Quest is much better, despite the price difference. The inclination of the seat is higher in the Triumph and the kid is forced to lay against the back of the chair all the time, while in the Quest the kid can seat with its back straight and in a more active position.

        go for quest

The quest is worth the extra money, especially the seat extender when your children becomes a toddler or is tall.

        The Quest... I love luxury!

The more features the better! Definitely the Quest. =) (Very nice lens by the way - very helpful!)
