10 Things Mothers Always Say To Their Children

Updated on July 29, 2015

My mother always said this!!

I told myself I would never become my mother. Well, I did!! How about you? Do you remember your mother telling you to eat your broccoli, wear clean underwear, don't go outside with wet hair??. Yeah, our mothers did say those things. And now look at you!!! You have become your mother!!!! Oh my!!. Here I have put together the ten of my favorite things moms always said.Do you remember??

By the way: The picture here is of me at 26 and my daughter, Holli. She is grown with three kids of her own now. Does she say any of these?? I am sure she does.

Eat your vegetables!!

Now we all knew why mom wanted us to eat our vegetables. Because they are good for us.But the taste was yucky.I remember gagging on stuff I didn't like. I just couldn't make myself eat certain things. Now that I am grown up. I love vegetables. I love all kinds. I even found out that I liked asparagus, which i couldn't stand as a child. I think even though our children don't eat all of their vegetables most still grow up healthy. As long as good nutritional food is offered.

Veggies we hated

When we were kids

What vegetable could you not stand when you were a kid??

See results

Because I said so!!!!!!

Because your mom says

Honestly that is the silliest excuse for a why question. Why can't they just tell you the reason for having to pick up your toys?."So, you don't step on them, Cathy". "But mom, I won;'t step on them, I promise"."You still have to pick them up Cathy!!" But mom why?? "Because I said so"!!! It is so much easier just to say that in the beginning now isn't it??

Wear a sweater or you will catch your death of cold!!

I am not sure why people thought that cold weather would cause you to catch a cold. But even today people still believe this.According to the web site Web MD: The most common causes of the common cold are viruses There is no evidence that you can get a cold from exposure to cold weather or from getting chilled or overheated But a person can still get frostbite without wearing warming clothes and hats and gloves in freezing weather. So maybe we should listen to our mothers after all.

Home Made Chicken Noodle Soup

3 to 4 lbs. chicken

1 onion cut in half

2 celery stalks chopped

1 carrot cut into pieces

Place the chicken in a 6 qt. pan and cover with water. Add vegetables. Cook about 30 minutes over medium heat until chicken is done. Remove chicken from pot and cool chicken. Take chicken off the bones and cook dor another 1/2 an hour. Chill chicken pieces.

Prepare:

4 celery ribs diced

2 carrots diced

Cut the chicken into bite size pieces.

Strain stock and return to pan. Add 2 cups of water, chicken and prepared vegetables. Cook another 20-25 minutes until vegetables are cooked. Add 4 ounces noodles to the soup and cook 10 minutes. Salt and pepper to taste.

My Father

Did your mom tell you to wait for your dad to get home??Were you scared?

Just Wait Till Your Father Gets Home!!!!

Yeah that didn't scare me much. My daddy spoiled me rotten. He would ask me if I wanted my spanking now or later?? Well I always said "Later" My dad never laid a hand on me. Or yelled a me. So, I was not even have scared of him. Did your mom ever use the threat of waiting till your father gets home? Did it scare you??

No Jumping on the

Couch

Bed

Furniture

In the house

I can give you something to do if your bored. Clean your room!!!! It's a pig stye

Stuff to help you clean

Do you need these things??

Are your arms broke??

This one I remember well because when I stayed with my aunt she used to say this to me a lot. Then, I carried it down to my children. They would tell me they could not do something and I would ask them "Why, are your arms broke?" They always ended up doing whatever it was that I asked. So, Are your arms broke??

When my son, Kevin was about 8, he fell and broke his collar bone. So, he had his arm in a cast. He loved to poke fun at me and say. Yes, Mom my arm is broke. I thought that was cute.

You better watch what you are saying!!!

I'll wash that mouth out with soap!!!

Great videos of moms and kids

Interacting

Close the door!!

Were you born in a barn????

And the number one thing that Moms say to their Children

I LOVE YOU!!!!!

Need I say anymore??

Bonus, (was overheard from one of my daughters to her children)

You're embarrassing me!!

Thank you

Ha ha - this is so funny - I could relate to so much. The chicken soup looks delicious though!

It's so funny how we find our saying things our parents used to say. No doubt it's been happening for generations. An interesting read.

Mum use to say "were you born in a tent?"

Another was "young Lady" she would say this when angry and another was "do you want me to tell your father?" Great lens.

This is great! Maybe these kinds of comments are genetic to women? I have heard my mum say these things to me and yes, I say so many of them to my kids! Oops.....

It's not only parents talking to their children and saying these things - with the last of the baby boomers (ie, me) taking over care of our aging parents (she's 94....), I find myself repeating these things to my own mother. The times, they are a changin'

Don't swallow chewing gum, it'll make a big ball in your tummy.

That didn't apply to bubblegum, which may have started my inquisitive mind - I always wanted to ask what was the difference.

I am I mother and she was hers. Now that I'm a little older and hopefully a little wiser, I see the logic in it. I love my mother and using her for a role model wasn't such a bad thing after all.
