Casey Isabella Olivia

Updated on July 6, 2014

Proudly sharing my first granddaughter's life story

I just became a grandma, for the first time -- to a baby girl. I am excited, I can't explain this feeling. I feel an unspeakable joy, an indescribable feeling.

I cant' wait to put ribbons on her hair, buy her cute dresses with matching shoes and accessories. I can't wait to take her to her piano or dance lessons, or perhaps voice lessons. I can't wait to take her to the bookstore. I can't wait to take her to school.

I cant' wait to be with her on her first plane ride, or her first boat ride, on her first local trip or her first trip abroad.

Casey Isabella Olivia

Casey Isabella Olivia was born by C-section on February 12, 2012 at 1:37 pm. She weighed 4 lbs and 13 oz. and measured 44.5 cm.

I first saw her at the hospital nursery. I thought she was pretty like her mom and had long legs which she took after her dad!!

On her fifth month of pregnancy, Casey's mom had to undergo an ultrasound test upon her doctor's orders and that was when we learned that the baby was a girl. So I started buying her newborn stuff like booties, mittens, baby clothes, onesies, jumpers and flannel blankets. I've always loved flannel blankets for babies with their dainty designs.

Casey's umbilical cord has dried and fell off on February 24, 2012.

Casey turned one month today, March 12, 2012.

She visited her pediatrician today. She was waring a plaid dress in teal and pink. Mom wanted her to wear a headband but I said the headband can probably wait until her fontanelle has completely closed.

On her first check up, she weighed 4 lbs. and 37 inches and measured 44 centimeters.

Casey had her first DPT (diphtheria-pertussis-tetanus) shot and first OPV (oral polio virus) drop on March 28, 2012.

She was wearing this orange Li'l Pumpkin onesie by Sears.

By one month, I started to play Casey's nursery rhymes CD to her. We do this in the wee hours of the morning when she is wide awake and doesn't want to go back to sleep yet.

Casey slept on her chest for the first time on April 7, 2012.

She attended her first Easter Egg Hunt at Ayala Heights with Mom and Dad with her cousins on April 8, 2012 and attended a party on April 9, 2012

She attended mass for the first time on April 22, 2012 with Mom, Dad, Auntie and Uncle at the Father Pio Church near Eastwood.

I started playing nursery rhymes to her to put her to sleep in the wee hours of the morning.

I started reading to her the books that I used to read to her uncle and mom, from A Child's First Library of Learning: Animals in Action, (the very first in the series) and Life in the Water. She enjoys looking at the pictures of animals and sea creatures.

Casey got a new red Chicco stroller today. If you intend to get one for your baby girl or boy, my lens on The Best-Priced Strollers 2012 will help you decide which stroller to buy for your little one.

Casey had her check up on April 16, 2012. She weighed 9 lbs. and measured 55 cms long.

She went out to Eastwood mall for the first time with Dad and Mom after mass. She enjoyed going around the mall.

She attended her first ALJ Walk on May 6, 2012

Casey was wearing a red, white and blue striped Old Navy baby leggings and a red polyester t shirt exclusively made for the occasion. She wore a red clip on her hair and a matching pair of socks with a slipper design.

July 12, 2012

Casey first tasted mashed potato on July 12, 2012.

She first tasted boiled carrots on July 24, 2012

She first tasted mashed squash on July 26, 2012

Her mom noticed she had slight fever in the evening of July 25th. The following day, Casey still had fever which rose to 38.3 by mid morning. We took her to the pedia who noticed some rashes around Casey's chin. The doctor ordered a CBC, platelet count and urinalysis.

Casey had CBC for the first time and cried on top of her voice when the med tech drew blood from her tiny left ring finger. The lab tests whose results were out after an hour all came out normal.

On July 30, we were all wondering why the rashes on Casey's face have not disappeared. Her mom made a research and found out that those rashes are symptoms of some kind of allergy. Upon going back to her food intake history, we found out that the rashes appeared after she ate boiled squash. Now that's less beta carotene for her. No worries because we can sub that with carrots and other yellow fruits and veggies for healthy eyes and beautiful skin.

Casey at 6 months - August 12, 2012 - At the supermarket with Dad and Mom

Casey was wearing her navy blue shorts with star print and light blue top.

This is the time when my daughter noticed that Casey is learning the concept of "trust" from the people around her and experiencing separation anxiety.

What is separation anxiety? How do babies manifest their trust in their moms, caregivers or nannies?

When I came back from the States, I noticed that Casey was a little bit thin. Her mom confirmed this and on my part, I said I will do something to turn the tide. I will make her eat as much as she can and I did.

We stopped feeding her baby food and instead gave her more boiled potatoes, boiled eggs, rice with bits of pork and chicken, bits of green veggies as much as she can. In no time at all, she was getting heavier, her cheeks, arms and legs were getting bigger.

Casey can now hold her milk bottle without any assistance.

Casey was spending more time with Lolo and Lola as mom was training at the World Citi Hospital. Mom had an emergency due to severe headache and fatigue.

November 2012

Casey is gradually developing her love for reading. Her mom has bought her several books and few of her favorites are:

"All Little Babies"

"At The Zoo" pop up book

"Teletubbies" and

"Busy Day"

By this time, Casey is still being breastfed. She is still being given baby food but we gradually introduced to her a variety of table food. In fact, I can't mention any food that she dislikes eating at this time . She particularly loves to eat fried chicken, fries, burger, burritos; fruits like oranges, mangoes and bananas.

Casey at 10 months

December 2012

Casey can say the word "mom" very clearly now.

This baby girl just looooooves to eat! She has a very good appetite, loves chicken and pasta!

January 2013

Casey was starting to learn to walk by herself. She would hold on to the sofa, chairs and whatever support she can hold on to using her sturdy legs and strong arms and hands.

02.12. 2013On the morning of Casey's first birthday and christening. She was wearing the same dress her mom wore on her first birthday 25 years ago.
