Organic Gifts for Babies

Updated on April 27, 2015

Baby & The Earth

It used to be that if you wanted to find an organic baby gift, you'd have a hard time coming up with anything presentable. Shops just didn't carry much by way of environmentally friendly baby gifts.

Now, the whole world is open to the savvy shopper via the internet. You can find as many organic baby gifts as you like.

Eco-friendly and organic baby gifts are charming, affordable, and environmentally sound.

Organic Baby Clothing

Clothing is the best choice for organic baby gifting.

Today's fabrics come in non-synthetic versions that are ultra soft and cuddly. They are made from sustainable resources and are often certified 100% fair trade labor (which means the workers who made it are paid well and treated well).

Choose baby layettes including onesies, buntings, organic baby blankets, hooded towels, and more.

The cuteness factor is unbelievable. You'll find peas in the pod outfits, teddy bears, cute sayings and tiny little socks. You'll have a hard time deciding which ones to narrow it down to.

Organic Baby Diapers

Organic diapers are a great gift if you know a mom is using cloth over disposable.

You can buy a whole stash of cloth diapers for a fraction of the cost of disposables.

Mom won't have to rush to wash each diaper if she's got a full stack handy. Include diaper pins and a water-resistant outer diaper cover to make mom's gift complete.

Alternative Storage

Why not gift mom with some alternatives to storing her baby's food in plastic containers or bags? You can now buy lunch boxes, storage containers and insulated travel bags that are free of lead, BPA, and Pthalates-all of the things that are known to be bad about plastics.

If you've got a mom who's concerned about the environment and what her baby's food touches (and who isn't!), gift her with a set of storage containers or glass bottles and food storage jars.

Cute as a Button!

Organic Bedding

Deck out baby's room with bedding that is 100% organic cotton. The fibers will feel wonderful next to baby's skin, and they are not as expensive as they once were. You can buy sheets, a comforter, pillow shams, curtains and more all in organic fabric.

Ask the mom what her décor is before you purchase, and then check out online stores. It's easier to find the organic products online than in stores where you have to read each label to see if it truly is organic. Online you can just type in a search criteria like "organic sheets," and all of the products that come up will be organic.

Home Decor

Look for decorative items for baby's room that are made of wood or other organic materials.

Instead of buying plastic toys, go for blocks that are made of wood and decorations and objects that baby will play with that are made from alternatives to toxins that can be found in plastics or other manufactured man-made materials. They're found in abundance online and in specialty catalogs.

Try to find products that are made in the USA and are labeled eco-friendly. This means that they are made under strict rules and are made in the least environmentally harmful way. Also look for the word organic as it means that no chemicals or pesticides were used in the making or harvesting of the product and it did not come from genetically altered seeds.
