Store-bought diaper cakes can be pricey, so why not save some money and make your own? Making your own design is fun and adds a personal touch to your gift. Here are some easy directions to make a basic 3-tier diaper cake. Then use the pictures above for inspiration to add your own flair!

INGREDIENTS

- 45 disposable or cloth diapers

- Gift ribbon in your choice of color(s)

- Small toys such as pacifiers, rattles,

DIRECTIONS

1. Roll diapers one at a time and tie each one with a piece of ribbon.

2. Tie 25 diapers together with a ribbon to create the bottom layer

3. Create a second tier by tying 12 diapers together with a ribbon

4. Make a third tier by tying 8 diapers with ribbon

5. After tying the top layer together, remove the diaper in the center and replace it with a baby bottle, baby toy or small stuffed animal

6. Decorate the rest of the cake with baby toys, rattles, or other goodies. For added color, wrap baby blankets around each tier.

Three-Tier Diaper Cake Pictures

Examples of larger cakes

Three-tier cakes can be personalized with more toys and gifts. These examples show themed designs that can be matched to the baby's bedroom and a more elegant flower cake that can be used for a new mom who doesn't know the baby's sex or perhaps has older children and doesn't need new baby toys that normally would be added to a diaper cake. If you're making your own, you can get creative!

Pictures of Diaper Cakes on eBay

eBay is a great place to shop for diaper cakes or get ideas because many of them are made by individuals who come up with unique designs you won't see in the stores and the prices may be better than what you can get in a store. Sometimes you can also find "undecorated" diaper cakes here that already have the diapers stacked into a tier, and all you need to do is decorate.

Great lens on a fabulous subject. Last year I went to a baby shower and had no idea what to take. One of these cakes would have been great. Blessed and featured on Sprinkled with Stardust

I made a blue and lavender diaper castle cake for my granddaughter's shower over the weekend and got rave reviews. The little "uncles" got their little cars and played around it. It was my first attempt and people were telling me I should start a business. They're easy and fun to make!
