Rainy Day

Updated on April 7, 2016

I've got that rainy day feelin...

I knew today was going to be rainy from start to finish. I was not really sure what my expectations for the day were going to be, but I knew I had to do something. I normally take the boys for a walk every morning however, it has been pouring down rain all day. I have a few returns to make and need to get the groceries purchased for next week, but didn't want to take them out, it's just not the right day for it.

April showers bring May flowers, right?? Anyway, aside from playing with the same toys we play with every day or watching movies, I needed something to do to keep the kids happy and interested.

I like to do crafts with them, not every day but a few times per week. So today, I thought about doing a rainy day craft to go along with today's weather. I of course went to Pinterest for an idea. I couldn't find any crafts specifically that I thought would be quick and that Sam could actually do at this point without me having to do ALL the work... so I got inspired and decided to do fingerprint raindrops on a piece of construction paper. We covered the entire page with blue fingerprint raindrops! Then I got the glue stick out and made 3 large circles towards the top of the page and told Sam to put cotton balls on the purple glue to cover it up. These were our clouds! He enjoyed it! It used different media and he had a really good time doing it!

Then after seeing how much fun he had doing the fingerprints I thought about what else we could do with paint that corresponds with today's theme. So I got to thinking about rainbows and wanted to do something that was different. So I got out a paper plate and put several different paint colors in a circle in the middle. Then I had him put his hand in the paint and we did rainbow hand prints! We got the baby involved in this also! Very fun, and extremely easy!!!!!!

What else did we do today?

After the crafts the baby went for a nap and Sam and I like to Facetime with "nana" to say hello and see what she and "papa" were up to. We needed something to do until lunch time, so as I was straightening up toys I saw our train bin and a lightbulb went on!!!!!

We have train tracks that my sister's father in law had at his house from when my nephew was little and loved trains. He gave them to me about a year ago, so I thought I'd get them all out and we would build a fantastic train track! The baby even got in on the fun and he seemed to be enjoying watching the train go around and around on the track!!!! We all had fun and got creative with it and I think it was definitely a good activity for us. They both ate their lunches and went up for naps without a problem!!!!

Any ideas?

In all, I think we had a fantastic day so far. I'll have to get creative for the next rainy day... I'd love it if you would share some ideas with me in the comments section!!!!
