Room Parent - Why Move the Sign Up Sheet Online

Updated on October 15, 2012

Online Parent Volunteer Sign Up Sheets

There's no reason to not use the fantastic FREE sign up services that are available online to manage everything from classroom party dish sign ups to the spring carnival and which parents are signing up to work which shifts.

Many of these services allow you to export calendar details for events to your Outlook or Google calendar, and also to share events with friends (and possibly other parents) on social networks like Facebook (which could mean greater participation).

Why depend on phone calls and copied letters sent home in backpacks, when you can automate online?

Free Online Volunteer Sign Up Services

Here are the free online Volunteer sign up services I've found.

Classroom Party Parent Sign Up Sheet

You can use this working demo by clicking on the image above and entering the password "pool" (pretend that's the teacher's last name).

I've created this sign up so that anyone can view it (incase a parent feels like sharing it on Facebook) but as long as someone else knows the password (we'll pretend it's the teacher's last name - pool) they can get in. This makes it easy for other parents to get access. The teacher can also post a link on a classroom website.

Punchbowl Has the Best Online Invitation Designs with Potluck Signup

I love the designs of the invitations on Punchbowl. However, their potluck signup doesn't show up for several clicks, and I'm afraid that would prevent people from actually signing up to help bring stuff to class parties.

I added a line of text to my invitation that says "Please sign up to bring a snack" but I'm not sure if that is enough to get parents to seek out the potluck link and sign up.

The other fun thing about Punchbowl is it has a feature for parents to contribute to a giftcard. I haven't figured out how it works, and if it could be collected for a teacher or classroom gift yet - but I'm hopeful that it can.

Have Parents Donate Money for Teacher Gifts

Punchbowl makes it easy to manage donations for teacher or classroom gifts. Make a suggested donation, and have it deposited into the room parent's Paypal account. This is so much easier than trying to get cash from parents when you're not even sure if the requests make it home it their kids' backpacks!

Are you a room parent? - Have you used an online service for managing volunteers?
