Spending Time With The Kids

Some Crazy Weekends

On weekends after a busy week of work, my wife and I would just grab the kids, jump in the car and start to drive. We never knew where we were going to end up, what we did know is that we always had fun.

One of our favorite stops was a State park in Pennsylvania called McConnells Mill. In this picture you see Fran and Jamie sitting on huge rock formations on the edge of the roaring Slippery Rock Creek.

The park has many trails, and beautiful scenic views along the way. The park also has so many off the beaten path roads; Fran was always trying to take us down some road where we had never been before. About then the kids would say we're lost, and she would say; Lost is never coming back, we're just temporarily misplaced.

These were wonderful weekends; time has gone by so fast, now our kids are adults with their own families. Today we get to spend time with not only our kids; who are now adults, but with our grandchildren.

Today the world is so busy, and everybody has such busy schedules. So never miss the opportunity to spend time with your family, as it's time that you'll never get back.

Our Grandchildren

This is a picture of our three beautiful grandchildren, but of course you already figured that out. If you have read my Hubpages profile, this is where we spend as much time as we can.

If you happen to be grandparents then you know what I'm talking about. Why is that you don't realize how fast time goes by until you're older.

We've had this same wagon for over 6 years now, and it's still as good as new.

Our Rides In The Wagon

You may not think that a simple wagon like this can be much fun or even a learning experience for kids.

We've had this wagon since Bobby (our oldest graandson) was about 2 years old, as we pulled him along through the neighborhood during the changing seasons of the year,

We would stop and take note of the different plants, flowers and tress. These are very special moments, teaching and watching them learn about new things in this busy world.

On one of our little rides we watched a backhoe and bulldozer taking out some old trees and Bobby just sat there in Awe!!

Tyler has just turned 2 years old and he's just as excited to take rides in this wagon. Really I can't wait for spring and summer to get here, I've had just about enough of winter!!!

Playing With Giada On Christmas Day

There is nothing we like better than setting up our trains for the Holidays, as it has become a family tradition.

From the time I was a kid, to now my kids, and now our grandchildren.

Every year our oldest grandson waits for me to come over and set up the train under their Christmas tree.

In this picture you see Giada and me playing with the train. Well I think grandpa is playing with the train and Giada has other things in mind.

This is the train that Giada and me, Oh I'm sorry that I was playing with.

Polar Express Remote Control Train

This is a new one our son just got this year, to add to his first train set. this polar express has a remote control.

The remote is fantastic, as it controls not only the train, but the whistle and voice of the conductor.

Really what ever happened to the big transformers and wires to hook up the train? My younger brother still runs our first ever train. It's a 1952 Berkshire engine, and he sets it up every years.

More About Our Family Traditions With Trains

Here you can read about our family tradition of trains. Be sure to watch the video of my younger brother, running the original 1952 train form our chilhood.

A Sleepover With Bobby and Tyler

Making Pepperoni Rolls

A couple of week ago we had a little sleepover at our house with Bobby and Tyler.

So we thought that it would be nice to make one of their favorites; pepperoni rolls.

As you can see both of them are such great helpers, so we really didn't have to do much except clean up later!! What more could you ask for, family memories.

Some Other Things We Love To Do With The Kids

Along the way of life you can make some very good friends, and sometimes you can count them on one hand. We've made some very good friends, and surely consider them family.

What I've come to realize is that there is no stronger bond then your family. There is nobody that you will count on in life more than family. My free time I'll spend with my family anytime.

Some other ways we spend time

  1. Read books, Bobby is now old enough that he reads to us
  2. Watch their favorite movies when they sleepover
  3. Play board games, we can sit for hours and play fun games
  4. Card games, War and Uno are two of the favorites we play. Let not forget about Old Maids!!
  5. Playing with them outside is always fun on their bikes and scooters
  6. We have loads of fun with science experiments
  7. Building things with their legos
  8. Puzzles are always fun with kids, and great a learnig experience
  9. In the summer we like to play in the sandbox
  10. We also like to take walks to the park that is near our house, and then turn them loose to run around and play.

What do think about the way that I spend my free time? - Leave me comment even just to say Hi, I'd love to know you were here

I couldn't agree more, my friend. Time spent when they are young pays huge dividends when they are older. Well done!

How wonderful that you have the opportunity to spend with your kids/grandkids. I wish that we had times like this with mine, but they lived too far away. Enjoy every minute.

I remember loving every minute of being with my husband and son - we called ourselves the 'three little piggies!' lol. We spent every spare minute together and have some fantastic memories. He's 14 now and we still love being together. Great lens.

I love it! It's so important to have that kind of time with kids and grands! The idea of getting in the car and just going sounds good today even. Great lens, Sam.
