Teaching The Letter M: Activities For A Day Of Letter Fun

Updated on March 3, 2013

Learning The Letter M Day

The letter M was a fun letter for me to teach my boys. We made monkey bread for breakfast while my youngest son ran around the house in a monkey costume randomly repeating the three little monkey rhyme. Before morning was up we listened to music, played marbles and built a macaroni necklace.

At lunch for learning the letter M day, we had meatballs, mozzarella cheese, mashed potatoes, and milk. After lunch we made stamps from marshmallows to make a bill letter M. Then we played with letter magnets on the fridge, made Mardi Gras masks and had fun playing in the mud.

For dinner for learn the letter M day, we ate Mexican food. At the end of the day the boys had fun writing the letter M and making a corsage of things that started with the letter M. Before bed we read a book about a musical mouse.

Days To Have Letter M Day.....

Letter M Day can really be on any day but you can turn it extra fun by corresponding the day with the letter.

Instead Of Just Flash Cards - Keeping The Letter Of The Day Alive

Don't get me wrong flash cards can be great and they are easy to make but sometime flash cards get in the way. I can not say how many times they get lost, torn to pieces or ruined because someone dunked them in milk. One of my kids favorite toys( Red Alphabet Apple) that I also love because it helps them learn letters can really go in place of flash cards most of the time.

My child loves his apple, he is almost four and knows his letters because of this game. It is a great toy for him to take on car rides or when we are in a waiting room.

My youngest son is a little young for some of the activities but he loves the rhymes and songs. This song was a major winner for letter M day.

You can make monkey bread by making dough first but I usually just use the cheap biscuit dough that can be found at the grocery store.

Cook Time

Prep Time: 5

Total Time: 20

Serves: 4

Ingredients

  • 1 can of store bough biscuit dough
  • 1 Cup Of Sugar and Cinnamon Mixture (Its up to you haw sugary you want it)
  • Half stick of butter.

Instructions

  1. You will also need two mixing bowls and non stick cookie sheet. Oven should be preheated to 375.
  2. 1. Mix your Cinnamon Mixture together. I usually use a couple of tablespoons per a cut of sugar. You can use white or brown sugar.
  3. 2. Melt butter in bowl.
  4. 3. Cut biscuits into small strips.
  5. 4.Dip each dough strip into the butter then roll it around in the sugar. (My kids loved doing this step, but beware they can get messy.)
  6. 5. Place the strip in the shape you want on your cookie sheet. Strips should all tough and over lap.
  7. 6. Put your letter M shaped monkey bread in the oven for about ten minutes.
  8. 7. Right at ten minutes I usually add some cinnamon to the top of the monkey bread and let it bake for one or two more minutes.
