Top 5 things to love about being a mom
I always wanted to be a mom ...
My journey as a mom has had its ups and downs but seeing my kids achieve and grow into the truly amazing young ladies they are makes me so proud and happy to have them in my life!
I've come up with a list of my favorite things about being a mom which includes: the funny things they say, Mother's Day (yipee!!), the quality time I am able to spend with them, the sense of purpose it gives me and last but certainly not least the unconditional love it has inspired in me.
Mummy, let me see what you're wearing...you're going out with me you know!
# 5 Kids say the darndest things!
This is so true ...I absolutely loved the Art Linkletter show and can't imagine not having "little people" around so we can enjoy the many interesting and hilarious things kids say ...that is when they're not embarrassing lol.
The quote above was from Miss Kristen just last week, I had to accompany her to a prize giving ceremony and she wanted to make sure I was appropriately dressed, not to mention the fact that I had to walk with a pair of heels!!!
...But seriously, there's no end to the fun when kids get talking, have you ever heard a conversation between a couple of 5 year olds? Whether they're making plans or playing a game, it's the cutest thing to see them interact.
A special feature from Kids Say The Darndest Things
Kids Say The Darndest Things - The greatest TV show of all time!
I'm not even sure when I first saw this show but Art interviewed over 20,000 kids - these shows are priceless!
I love this book...
Chosen by Art himself, this is a great collection of the most memorable funny things said by his own kids and those he interviewed - brilliantly illustrated by the creator of Peanuts.
Another Kids Say The Darndest Things Book!
I finished reading Art Linketter's first book and can't wait to get my hands on this one!
#4 Mother's Day!
Yay Me :)
For me, this is a day to enjoy the simple pleasures in life. I enjoy the privilege of being mom to 2 amazing lil women. If all we do is have lunch at home and round it off with a movie night - that's fine with me. My girls have been able to make me breakfast in bed for a couple of years now... a treat I can also look forward to on my birthday :)
Breakfast In Bed Tray
Who doesn't enjoy breakfast in bed? When you're done it can also be used as a laptop desk - I must admit I've used a lap desk for many years now. This is a nice, sturdy solution.
#3 Quality Time
Whether it's sharing something I love with my kids - like introducing them to Squidoo ;) or going on a family vacation, it's definitely times like these that make life worth living. If you're not finding time to do something meaningful with your kids - then in my book you're doing it (life) wrong my friend!
Below is a photo of us with my mom and sister - this was the last Christmas we all spent together in Barbados - my sister doesn't live here anymore so while we've been to visit her and of course she comes home every now and then, she hasn't been back at Christmas so I thought I would share it.

#2 Sense of Purpose
I wanted to be a teacher when I was growing up. It hasn't worked out that way, but I have had so many wonderful opportunities come my way over the years. I've still never been to an interview where I didn't get the job and never once been fired either.
For now, I am focused on providing and caring for my girls. They understand that life is full of surprises, good and bad, but with the right attitude we can handle everything life throws at us and continue to strive to be the best we can be.
#1 Unconditional Love
It was the easiest thing to fall in love with my kids ... I think IF I could imagine life without them it would be incredibly dull and I can honestly say they're the best thing that ever happened to me. I'm not a supermom, I've made many mistakes and not always been the best parent I could be, but there is a peace and contentment that comes over me when I think of them - simply from knowing they're here.
The best things in life are free:
I treasure the memories of cuddling my girls when they were small and it's still the most special feeling to get a big hug from them when I come home from work, or if they've spent the night by a friend - it is great to know that you are truly missed and appreciated.
As they grow older...
I hope children are always going to be a part of my life. I can relate to everyone but I think the fact that kids are so refreshingly honest makes them really great people to be around. My children don't need me quite as much as they did a few years ago, but I know our connection is strong - I won't take it for granted and hope to be able to spend many happy years ahead with my grandchildren and great grandchildren too.
