Great for 1 year old girls or boys!
Great Outdoor Toy for 1 Year Olds
I love, love, LOVE this toy! It's perfect for 1 year olds through 4 year olds. It's probably best if your child can stand before using it though. My son has loved this toy FOREVER! He loves to throw the balls that come with the water table down the center shoot -- they spiral down and he thinks that's just the neatest thing ever.
He also likes to spin around that ferris-wheel type toy on the side. It also comes with a cup for scooping water up - he repeatedly puts water in it and empties it through the center shoot. This is so great for outdoor, summer fun!
Toys for 1 Year Olds: Puzzles - Challenge them with these great toys!
My son loves these big-piece puzzles. He's played with them for the past year (he's now two) -- he's getting a bit too good with them, but when he was around 12 months old, these toys held his attention for so long! He'd try to put the shapes in just right and would get so confused when they wouldn't fit in exactly (because they'd always be slightly turned) -- but he kept trying until he got it right!
I love the chunky magnetic puzzles. These are prefect for the older 1 year old because there is an added element. You open each door and place the proper piece inside.
This is a great learning puzzle. The basic shapes will teach both shapes (obviously) and hand/eye coordination.

Encourage Reading with Books for 1 Year Olds
Great stories they'll love!
Grow his book nook with any of these great books. Do what I do -- rotate books in and out so the collection stays fresh and interesting. We do this with his books that we keep upstairs (to read at night, and occasionally before naps).
We also keep a large book collection downstairs, too. He loves to read books during the day and especially loves any books with animals, and snowmen. I don't know why, but he is obsessed with snowmen!
He loves the Snuggle Puppy book below. The mommy dog sings to her baby dog which she affectionately calls her "Snuggle Puppy". In two different parts of the book, it says, "I gave you a kiss" and my son always gives me a kiss while we are reading. Melts my heart!
We also both love "On the Night You Were Born" -- that is such a GREAT book that teaches kids how special they are.
Perfect toys for 1 year old little girls!
Adorable Push Toy for 1 Year Old Girls
If she's right around 1 year old, she likely hasn't perfected walking yet. Enter this brilliant walker -- she pushes is around because she's playing with a baby doll, but at the same time, she is improving her coordination and muscles to become a better walker. This walker will fit almost any doll, but Fisher Price does sell the exact baby doll, separately.
I'm a big fan of walking toys -- my kiddo was a bit of a lazy walker. He would crawl, EVERYWHERE. A walker is what eventually lead to walking success for us.
Soft and Cuddly Doll
Over 100 people can't be wrong. With so many reviews averaging a 4.5/5, it's clear that parents are loving this doll (and so are the 1 year old girls!). She can be customized to your child's ethnicity, too (how cool is that, to have a dolly just like you!)! She's super-soft, and has lifelike toes and belly button.
She'll love hanging onto this doll for playtime, and even sleeptime, too. All little girls love to cuddle!
This doll is also available in different hair colors, too! As a brunette, I would've loved to have had a dolly with brown hair.
Don't you wish she could really help you cook?
Great First Kitchen
First Kitchen for 1 Year Old Girls
This cute kitchen has over 220 reviews averaging a 4.5/5; little girls are loving this toy! This fun toy for 1 year old girls (up to age 3) has a ton of different activities: there's a shape sorter, an oven door, a small book that plays music inside the fridge, a drawer, a tap, a stove top and a trash can...all things that will mesmerize your little one.
Plus, it plays songs and music--even some in Spanish (I know I would love if my son was bi-lingual! I know this is just a start, but still, a parent can dream)!
Best-Selling Picnic Basket
This is a great fill-and-spill toy for one year old girls that is great for teaching manners (which is funny, since all the little girls at daycare fight over this toy. I guess learning to share comes a bit later...)! It teaches manners ("say please!" "say thank you!") and all the colors of the rainbow. This is also a great toy, because it encourages learning in different way. For instance, it'll tell her to "put one cup IN the other cup."
The pieces, aside from the handkerchief, are durable plastic so it's very easy to clean!
On a rainy day, set up a picnic and enjoy the day inside with this fun set. It's a fun indoor activity when the weather is poor.
Toys for 1 year old boys
Boys Love to Build
All baby boys love to pound things--let him pound all his wants on this workbench. This is one of the best toys for 1 year old boys because it uses sight and sound to help him learn. He'll enjoy 15 songs and nail that light up when pounded. Bonus for parents: there's a switch for quiet play, too (and we all need a little bit of that every now and again, no?).
My little guy is a bit older now, and he still plays with this. It's funny how they change over the months/years. The lights used to really entertain him when he was about 13 months old. Now that he's older, he loves to pound on the workbench!
Don't All 1 Year Old Boys Love Planes?
Does your one year old like lights and sounds? What 1 year old doesn't? This toy will pique his interest with all of those features, plus fun songs. With over 100 reviews, it's easy to see what parents love this toy.
Be sure to purchase some AA batteries! We have this and it gets played with several times per week. We haven't had to change the batteries out yet, though, and it's been almost a year. This toy is efficient!
Update: We just took our first plane ride to visit family in Ohio, and even though my son has always loved this toy (he loves all Little People), his interest has definitely been renewed in it!
These build muscle, enhance coordination and are oh-so-fun!
Classic John Deere Riding Toy
I'm loving this ride-on John Deere toy. Of course, we're from the Great Plains so there's a special place in our hearts (well, mainly my husband's heart) for this toy. Jack loves it, too.
I love the looks, but the functional aspect that I like best about this toy for a 1 year old is that it's lightweight. My son is a big boy now, but he's still, well, little. That means he needs our help often. But this too is so light that if he gets stuck somewhere, he can actually move it himself and keep on his merry way. This means less tears!
