12 Brain Boosting Foods Your Child!

Do you know that our brain is only 2% of our total body weight but needs 20% of the calories.A growing child's brain is a hungry organ which requires lot of essential nutrients like Omega-3 fatty acids,anti-oxidants and fibers.Help your child to become a good learner and active problem solver by feeding these foods.

Green Vegetables

Getting kids to eat green veggies needs patience and persistence.Try colourful veggies such as red cabbage, eggplant, and spinach all of them are rich in anti-oxidants. If they don't like to eat veggies in curry, try making soup. Other vegetables, good for kids, are green soyabeans, broccoli, green peas, and zucchini.

Whole Grain

Whole grains are very important for child's brain development as grains contain Folate and Vitamin B6.

Sunflower seed

Sunflower seeds are excellent source of Vitamin E, which is primary fat-soluble antioxidant.They can really boost your mood and brainpower. If some one is suffering from Insomnia, eat sunflower seeds.

Egg

Eggs are great source of Protein & Choline, which helps building sharp memory and helps you think better.They are low-cost, quick, and easy to make and highly nutritious. On an average 1 egg contains 80 calories.They make great breakfast and lunchbox item!

Avocado

The most healthy fruit on the earth. It has all the vitamins and minerals that a human body requies. Avocado also contains all the important healthy fats responsible for healthy blood flow to brain.

Salmom

Salmom is another essential food for your kid. This fish contains Omega-3 fatty acids that are important for your kid's cognitive development. But some kids do not like to eat it because of it overpowering smell. It can be mixed with vegetables or can be given in sandwich with some breadspreads. These fish are very expensive but are very high in nutrition.

Yogurt

Yogurt contains an Amnio acid are know as Tyrosine, which helps in improving alertness and memory.

Peanut Butter

Again a good source of Vitamin E with great anti-oxidant properties that protects our nerve membranes of the brain.Its easy to feed becasue kids love it.

Oatmeal

It is truely a great food for kids, full of fiber, Vitamins like B & E. Mix of protein and carbohydrate, which will keep your kids energized and alert all the time (during exams too!). It can be a perfect breakfast and can be made interesting if you sprinkle a bit of brown sugar and add some fresh berries.

Acai Berry

This fruit has the highest amount of anitoxidants score than any other fruit or Vegetable.

Nuts

Nuts such as almonds, walnuts, cashews etc. contain healthy fats, which are good for your kid's brain. Salted flavours of these nuts makes them tasty and healthy snack.

Beans

Beans are full source of energy as it contain vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates, and proteins.

Note:

1. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Make sure your kids have healthy breakfast everyday.

2. Water is another thing that your kid should have regularly. As drinking water regularly keeps the concentration up.

3. You should avoid junk food for your kids as it has negative effect on your kid's brain.

      I agree, peanuts and other peanut based products like peanut butter are great brain foods. I remember back in grade school our teacher/mentor feed us peanuts while reviewing for a math contest. We placed 2nd in 8 schools that competed in such event. Although, I don't give the full credits to peanuts. I think it helped us somehow. I read, peanuts and other nuts are rich in niacin which is known as a vitamin for the brain. BTW great list! :) Voted up! :)

      Another thing that I have discovered with my kid is Nutella. Sometimes, peanut butter/jelly sandwich is too much. For a change, the above has worked wonders and I "think" it's nutritious ;)
