3 Minute Mug Cake From a Box

Updated on August 21, 2017

Those Rough Nights and Happy Days

I remember coming home late from exams sad and just wanting a cupcake to feel better. Luckily, we always had box cake mix in the house and I could just whip up this simple cake! Its so easy and fast that its perfect for just having once in a while or for making in that quick pinch when its your friend's birthday and you don't want to do a million dishes or wait half an hour for an actual cake to bake.

This recipe is perfect because you can decorate it any way for any occasion and it will always look adorable and taste great! As a bonus, if you are giving the cake as a gift, make it in an adorable cup and tie a ribbon around it! That way, you will have a cake and a gift all in one!

Cook Time

Prep time: 5 min
Cook time: 3 min
Ready in: 8 min
Yields: 1 Large Mug Cake

  • 8 Tbsp Box Cake Mix
  • 1 Tbsp Vegetable Oil
  • 1 Egg
  • 3 Tbs Oil

  1. Mix all of the ingredients together until smooth.
  2. If you are using a separate cup to cook the cake, pour the ingredients into a greased cup, other wise, just use the cup the ingredients were mixed in.
  3. Microwave on High for 1 minute and 30 seconds. If it is still uncooked, microwave again for 30 seconds until the desired consistency is reached!

This is a great idea, though Duncan Hines has a product like this out already in stores. You just need 3 tablespoons of water to add to the mix in the packet, and nuke it for 1 minute 10 seconds.
