A Delicious Ham and Bean Soup Recipe
This ham and bean soup recipe is easy to make and tastes great. The recipe calls for great northern beans, but you can substitute a different type of bean if you prefer such as navy beans or even lentils.
1 pound dry great northern beans
2 cups cubed ham cooked
1 chopped carrot
1 chopped celery rib
1 chopped onion
8 cups chicken broth
1 teaspoon of minced garlic
½ half teaspoon of salt
1 teaspoon of white pepper
2 tablespoons of butter
1 bay leaf
- Soak beans overnight. Discard water and rinse beans thoroughly.
- In a large pot melt butter over medium low heat and add the carrots, celery, onion, and garlic. Sauté for a few minutes until the vegetables are soft.
- Add the rest of the ingredients and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer covered until beans are tender, about 1-2 hours.
- Discard bay leaf.
