The Chicken Sandwich

...has been around a long time.

One restaurant claims to have "invented" the chicken sandwich in the 1940s. This cannot be proven. However, this particular restaurant chain, which is one of the ones featured, is probably one of the first establishments to provide it as a staple.

Basically, for the purposes of this article, a chicken sandwich is defined as a breast patty - preferably whole - breaded and deep fried, and placed between a bun. I tried to cover the spicy chicken sandwich in this review, however, not all establishments provided a sampling which is naturally spicy. (That is, without a hot sauce of some sort driveled on top of the meat after the sandwich is prepared).

Today, it seems like every restaurant is trying to offer one of these morsels and each one boasts theirs is the best. There were some pretty good ones out there, and then a couple that I wouldn't think twice about another time.

We all have opinions and I would love to hear yours. So without any further adieu....

The quality of the any chicken sandwich is dependent not only upon the taste of the meat, but how it is encased. The breading or crust should be reliable too.

In this case, the sandwich looked to be crispy - and in fact, I think that is how it is advertised, but it was not. It wasn't completely soft, but it didn't have that edge to it that I anticipated.

The chicken itself was a bit stringy and almost seemed pressed. Not what I expected from what was advertised as a higher-quality and sold as a higher-priced sandwich. These sandwiches are not the basic patties that sell for a little more than a dollar.

The spice though, that was what got to me. It was pretty heavy, but felt superficial and fleeting. Like something that was brushed on as an afterthought and then cooked some more. That would explain the non-crunchy exterior. It was also pretty intense and I almost didn't want to finish it.

However, after a few bites and because I was hungry, I did. It was pretty good.actually and satisfied my appetite.

They were on sale, basically two for one, but I still only purchased one. I don't think I could have eaten another.

Overall, not too bad. But if I had an option, I would l probably consider another choice.

Price (2019): $5.99 or 2 for $6.00

One of my favorite and one of the best sandwiches out there period.

A delicious breast - full breast - breaded with their unique seasonings. The spiciness isn't too overpowering, but gives it a pleasant kick.

The bun is toasted just right and the full flavor excites your senses and satisfies your appetite.

A delicious sample and I'll definitely be going back.

Highly recommended for chicken fans.

t the very least, everyone has probably heard the name of the fourth Earl of Sandwich (born John Montagu), the British statesman whose name is forever affixed to our favorite lunchtime staple. What people may not know is that the foundations of this comfort food were laid long before the Earl's time. In fact, Arabs had already started stuffing meat inside pita bread centuries before the Earl came up with his delicious snack

This has to be the worse chicken sandwich I have sampled in a long time.

It tasted like they used the patties which they acquire from the 99 cent store where you get ten in a package.

The patty was about a quarter inch thick and filled with some sort of hardened paste. The breading was like sandpaper, and must tastier than what it was covering up.

I took two bites and then tossed it out for the animals to eat.

Do not waste your time.on this.

I was very disappointed since Church's is one of my favorites. They still have the best mashed potatoes and gravy.

Price (2019): $1.99

2. According to the United States Department of Agriculture, a sandwich must contain at least 35 percent cooked meat and no more than 50 percent bread.

3. 31% of the calories and 60% of the Fat in Burger King’s sandwich comes from the mayonnaise alone.

4. A Minnesota-based YouTuber once made a chicken sandwich literally from scratch. He grew a garden, harvested wheat, slaughtered a chicken, traveled to boil ocean water for salt, etc. It took him 6 months and cost him $1,500.

A pretty good sandwich and if you are familiar with chicken restaurants, you are definitely acquainted with KFC. Their spicy sandwich is their basic with a little hot sauce thrown on top. Nothing too complicated, and honestly, a little disappointing.

However, as far as taste and quality are concerned, this was pretty good. As you know, fast food is only as good as the cooks in the place - and sometimes it is very good and sometimes not. But you know what you are getting.

The breading is typical KFC and the meat was pretty good too, although sometimes you get a piece that isn't so good.

Overall, it hits the spot and is right on par with the other restaurants.

Most seem to be doing a 2for $6 sale right now for some reason.

I will probably opt for something else next time.

Price(2019): $6 for one sandwich; $9 for the meal.

I have to let you know first of all, I passed on the spicy mayonnaise. However, this sample, was quite colossal and is probably one of the best sandwiches I have had in a long time. A crispy, deep fried chicken breast on a warm, toasty bun. Delicious. What a sandwich should be.

The crust was light, flaky and abundant. Absolutely perfect. A delicious golden brown. The meat was warm and just the right texture. I looked like a full breast sample.

I passed on the spicy mayonnaise and was disappointed because I anticipated something with marinated meat. I am not a fan of mayonnaise.

But it was definitely worth it. One of the best. I will be trying this again.

Price (2019): About $8 for the combo including mashed potatoes and a drink.

Wow. This is one spicy chicken sandwich. Very hot. My mouth was on fire.

The chicken is pretty good breast meat and full of seasoning. Smashed thin to so if you prefer a thicker breast, you might want to try someplace else.

The breading is crispy and although it is a batter, tastes more like crumbs.

The spicy element is what is most notable about this sandwich because it tastes like it was marinated in hot sauce overnight.

Will definitely try this one again.

Price (2019): About $5.00
