Aldi Highland Earl Scotch Whisky.

Updated on April 27, 2013

If you like blended scotch whisky you will love this.

In my bid to taste as many different makes of scotch whisky I think I may have found the best of the budget scotch whisky available in our supermarkets.

Welcome to the world of Aldi and the best blended scotch whisky I have tried. Highland Earl is it's name and it retails for around £16 a 1 litre bottle or just over £10 for 70cl. This is the best value around and the Highland Earl is an award winning scotch whisky in it's own right.

This is what the IWSC have to say about Highland Earl

Highland Earl Blended Scottish Whisky Quality Spirits International Ltd Scotch Whisky - Blended

''Nose begins with an offering of firm grain which is immediately joined with super soft malt that fills the nasal cavities with everlasting aromas. Soft and elegant in the mouth with sensual, mature notes. Hints of caramel and lovely floral backing. Gentle, pleasing, long after taste''.

In my view this description is spot on accurate and I have to totally agree with them. It is without doubt the finest blended whisky I have tasted and I just hope that Aldi continue to stock it for many years to come.

Nectar from the gods.

This is how I describe a good whisky. It is like nectar from the gods and is so comforting a drink it really does put the world to rights for me. There is nothing quite like getting home from work on a Friday evening and settling down after a meal with a few glasses of my favourite tipple. A relaxing drink it allows you to reflect on the week gone by and review in your mind the weekend events yet to come.

I have to say that there is no need to go over the top and drink it like water. What you have to do with a whisky is to make sure you get the full flavour and appreciate all the hard work that has gone into producing it.

So my advice is to sit back kick off your shoes pour yourself a large one and just relax and savour the flavours. Try to work out for yourself what has gone into the blend to make it taste so good.

Whisky is definitely a drink for sipping and taking your time over.

Remember to drink responsibly and please do not drive after you have been drinking as it is against the law and a serious offence. It is just not worth it.

Who are Quality Spirits Intl ?

''Quality Spirits International Limited(QSI) is a global supplier of branded and private label spirits. QSI is a subsidiary of the largest family owned distillers in the Scotch Whisky industry, and distributes over two million cases each year''.

They produce brand names such as Scottish Collie, James King and James Alexander whiskies. So Highland Earl certainly has a pedigree being produced in the Speyside region of Scotland.

Thanks Steve. Off topic I know but if you like gin even a little bit try the Oliver Cromwell. It's in the picture of the spirit section next to the Highland Earl (the one with the collar) just so you know what to look for.

Someone has to be the bigger person and make the sacrifice and I have so much respect for you, how could I not? I will probably have to suffer through quite a few sips before I accurately gauge the proper bouquet, flavor and age. I will suffer through it and let you know how I make out.

No, no, no...please. Anything for a friend.
