An Old Fashioned Whiskey

Updated on February 12, 2017

This old fashioned whiskey recipe doesn't call for an orange or cherry garnish like most of the others. Back in the 1860s this drink didn't call for any kind of garnish. Men liked their drinks strong and plain. However please feel free to garnish this drink any way you deem fit. Once I made this cocktail for a Christmas party I had and i garnished it with some cranberries on a stick. It gave is some Christmas color without a drastic change in flavor.

To start gather you ingredients. You will need 1 sugar cube, water, ice, 3 dashes of Angostura bitters, 2 oz of your favorite rye whiskey and a garnish if you desire.

Put the sugar cube into a whiskey drinking glass.

Add the 3 dashes of bitters and the garnish if desired. For a good garnish I would suggest an orange peel.

Add splash of water next.

Now using a muddle or a spoon crush the sugar cube and muddle the orange peel.

Add your favorite whiskey and a few ice cubes. Stir together well and enjoy.
