Anchovies on Pizza - Good or Evil?
Well, I'm going to be upfront and probably unpopular here and declare that I absolutely love anchovies on pizza and come to that, in pasta, rice dishes, sandwiches and any other opportunity that I get to eat these tiny delicious salty fishes. In fact, it's not unknown for me to raid my fridge for a beer and have a jar or can of anchovies at my side to accompany it.
In fact, I really don't know why people don't like them, and it's kind of ironic that people dislike anchovies on pizza and other foods simply because they are 'salty' given that the average Western citizen already puts more than twice the salt that they need (at a conservative estimate) on their food.
So, a big up for anchovies on pizza for me but I wonder what other people here think of it. I've included a poll at the bottom so that you can let me know if you think anchovies on pizza are yummy or disgusting ... could be interesting.
I thought about including a pizza recipe with anchovies but then it's pretty simple really isn't it. Just choose your toppings and then add anchovies. However, anchovies are much more versatile than this and can be used to replace the saltiness in many recipes. Many top chefs use them to add saltiness to Lamb dishes for example.
I mainly use them to add to pasta dishes and when the store cupboard is a little bare I often simply just boil some pasta and then simply heat together some garlic, anchovies, chilli flakes, black pepper and any green veg such as asparagus or broad beans or alternatively grilled tomatoes. Mix this with some extra virgin olive oil and mix it all together for a delicious but cheap meal. You can of course add parmesan or another cheese if you wish. As with many pasta dishes of course, you can simply add whatvere you have handy.
So there we are, whilst anchovies on pizza are delicious .. in my opinion anyway, but there are a million uses for them .. if you like them, so what do you think .. anchovies on pizzas delicious or evil ... let me know below.
