BEST CABBAGE SOUP RECIPE for the Cabbage Soup Diet.
Normally, we do not recommend diving head ﬁrst into a fad diet. However, if you want to lose weight fast and only want to do this diet for about a week, then go for it! People have claimed to lose up to 7 pounds while on the cabbage diet for a week. This is why we think it is great for anybody who wants to lose weight for prom, a pool party or any other major occasion they want to be in tip top shape for. However, this is not a long term solution for obesity.
To make the soup, you will need the following ingredients:
- 1 head of chopped cabbage
- 2 cups diced celery
- 2 cups chopped white/yellow onion
- 2 cups diced carrots
- 2 diced green bell peppers
- 5- 6 cloves minced garlic
- 8 cups chicken broth, low fat and low sodium
- 2, 14 ounce cans of basil, garlic, tomatoes (diced) and oregano
- 2 teaspoons oregano
- 2 teaspoons basil
- 1 teaspoon red pepper ﬂakes
- 4-5 pinches black pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt (optional)
Step 1: In a large pot, heat approximately 3 to 4 tablespoons of olive oil. Keep the ﬂame or heat on medium to medium high.
Step 2: Throw in the diced celery, chopped onions, diced green bell peppers and diced carrots. Sauté them lightly until they are tender.
Step 3: Add the mined cloves of garlic and saute the vegetables for 2 to 3 more minutes.
Step 4: Pour the 8 cups of chicken broth onto the veggies. Make sure it is low fat and low sodium or it will defeat the purpose of the diet. If you are going to make the broth yourself, make it a day or two in advance. On the day you are going to make the soup, take the broth out of the fridge, you will see that there is a layer of chicken fat on the top of the broth. Remove this with a spoon, or decant the broth into another bowl making sure the chicken fat does not pour into the new bowl too.
Step 5: Throw in the diced tomatoes and cabbage.
Step 6: Turn the heat up to high. When you see the soup is boiling, bring the heat down to low-medium. Step 7: Keep cooking the soup until the cabbage is nice and tender.
Step 8: When it is almost ready, stir in the basil, red pepper ﬂakes, oregano and black pepper. Also add the salt if you are planning to use it. Salt does not make you gain weight, but it does make you retain water, which causes bloating and what we call "water weight".
Step 9: Taste the soup and adjust the amount of spices if you need to.
Step 10: Serve while hot and enjoy.
