Bar Verde at The Grove Secret Menu
Secret Menu Burger
Our server told us about the Bar Verde burger and the secret menu burger. The regular burger is good, however it doesn’t include bacon and avocado with a fried egg on top. This secret menu burger offers a combination of salty, creamy and savory with a sweetness from the balsamic onions. All of this goodness is placed onto a large brioche bun.

Best Sourdough Bread
Rick brought to our table the restaurant’s special two-day fermented sourdough bread. It crackled when I bit into the crust and the crumbs were white and softer than most sourdough bread. We spread a triple olive tapenade on top of the bread. It was made with black, kalamata and Nicoise olives chopped finely with diced sun-dried tomatoes, Extra Virgin olive oil and capers.
Elegant and Modern
When the elevator door opens, guests step into a stylish and modern bar area.
Bar Verde is nothing like the typical Nordstrom restaurants of before. It’s a full service restaurant perched above the manicured lawns of The Grove. Guests dining al fresco have dancing waterfall views from the new carved out balcony.
Our server, Rick, informed us that Bar Verde opened in 2013 during the week of Black Friday. It’s opening coincided with the unveiling of The Grove’s 100-foot tall Christmas tree and the arrival of 90,000 visitors to witness the holiday festivities.
Needless to say, it was a very busy month for the restaurant.

Bar Verde Cocktails
The Bar Verde cocktail menu is priced lower than many restaurants in Los Angeles. Here are a few under $10. The Blueberry Lavender Martini with local craft vodka, lavender syrup, fresh lemon juice, muddled blueberries and the Nor’Easter, an artisan cocktail made with Marker’s Mark, maple syrup, fresh lime juice and ginger beer. It’s served in a copper cup, which keeps it constantly chilled. The Mojito is made with Bacardi silver, muddled mint and fresh lime juice. All are priced at $9.

The entrance from Nordstrom
Since Nordstrom’s owns Bar Verde, you can collect Nordstrom points every time you dine here. It also means that if you only have $9 left on a Nordstrom gift card and can’t find anything in the store for that amount, you can use it at Bar Verde. Use the credit for a dish of cilantro lime chicken tacos with queso fresco or a jar of tomato, eggplant and ricotta served with grilled rustic bread for a decadent lunch.
If it’s cocktail hour, spend it on a Blueberry lavender martini or basil cucumber cooler.

Bar Verde Desserts
Leave room for the cobbler of the day with vanilla gelato a la mode. The night we dined it was a luscious pear and boysenberry with a crunchy oatmeal crumble and sea salt caramelized top. They Tres Leches cake with three milk sauce, caramel, seasonal berries and marscarpone. The chocolate peanut butter pot de creme is good, so is the peanut butter mousse with caramel sauce and crunchy almond popcorn.
If you want something savory, try the Bar Verde Cheese Plate with a variety of cheese.
Bar Verde Fresh Fish
The salmon Romesco is a healthy summer dish that is pan seared and served with morel mushrooms, asparagus and a rosemary butter sauce. We also liked the Black Cod sitting in soy broth with organic spinach and triangular shrimp dumplings and shitake mushrooms surrounding the moist white fish. Another seafood dish is the pan-seared scallops resting on top of lemon-scented risotto.
