Barbecued Chicken Thighs Recipe

Updated on October 27, 2014

Barbecue Chicken Thighs Are So Delicious.

You can cook your barbecue chicken thighs with the bones in them or you can take the bones out. I like to take the bones out and leave the skin on.

Why Chicken Thighs

I'm big on chicken thighs because you can remove the skin and bone and you have a great piece of chicken. And chicken thighs have a lot more flavor than chicken breasts. You can make delicious chicken tenders by cutting each chicken thigh into three pieces and then bread and deep fry them. I bet you'll love them if you give them a try.

Another really great thing about chicken thighs is that they cost about 1/3 the price of chicken breasts. They also make wonderful barbecued chicken.

Here's Another Really Great Barbecue Sauce That's Wonderful On Chicken

1. 1/2 cup Honey

2. 1 cup Brown Sugar

3. 1 cup Apple Cider Vinegar

4. 1 (12-ounce) Can Tomato Paste

5. 1/2 cup Worcestershire sauce

6. 1/4 cup Molasses

7. 2 tablespoons Ground Sea Salt

8. 1 1/2 teaspoons Ground Black Pepper

9. 1 tablespoon Hungarian Sweet Paprika

10. 1 tablespoon Chili Powder

11. 1 teaspoon Cayenne Pepper

12. 2 teaspoons Garlic Powder

13. 1 teaspoon Allspice

14. 1 Cup Coke

Put all your ingredients in a small pot and bring almost to a boil but not quite while you whisk all the ingredients together with a wire whisk. Turn down to a simmer and cook 20 minutes. I guarantee you that this will be one of the best barbecue sauces you will ever eat.

Barbecued Chicken Thighs Recipe

Many of you know that I love working with chicken thighs. One reason I like working with them is that you can do almost anything with a chicken thigh that you can with a chicken breast and the really great thing is that chicken thighs are about one fourth the cost of chicken breast. And if you go to the trouble of removing the skin and the bone from your chicken thighs and flatten them with a meat hammer under a sheet of plastic wrap you will have delicious chicken that you really can do anything with.

Beat Your Chicken Flat With A Metal Meat Hammer.

You can cover your chicken thighs with a sheet of plastic wrap and beat them flat through the sheet of plastic wrap. You won't splatter the chicken juices every where and your chicken can be beaten nice and flat.

These barbecue chicken thighs will be perfect for a cookout or tailgating. In fact you really won't find a better tasting barbecue chicken anywhere. What I like to do is beat the chicken thighs out flat and then slice them in strips and thread them onto bamboo skewers. I cook my chicken skewers on a charcoal grill for a wonderful barbecue chicken dish.

I make a delicious homemade barbecue sauce to go on my barbecued chicken thighs. Below is that recipe. Also check out the other barbecue sauce recipe over there to the right.

For Your Barbecue Sauce You Will Need.

1. Four Tablespoons Brown Sugar.

2. Three Tablespoons White Vinegar.

3. Three Tablespoons Very Finely Chopped Onion.

4. Three Tablespoons Yellow Mustard.

5. Two Teaspoons Paprika.

6. Six Tablespoons Tomato Sauce.

7. One Teaspoon Garlic Powder.

Place all of the above ingredients into a small saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat all the way down to a simmer and allow the sauce to set and simmer about thirty minutes. Then set aside.

Now what you want to do is to cook your chicken thighs on the skewers until you know the chicken is almost done. In the last few minutes of cooking time brush your chicken thighs with the sauce you made above. Don't put the barbecue sauce on to early or it will burn. I wait until I know the skewers of chicken are done and then I brush the homemade barbecue sauce onto the chicken and let the sauce heat up. If you do this in about the last 15 minutes of cooking time the barbecue sauce won't burn and the barbecued chicken thighs will be delicious.

Grilling? Be Sure To Use Indirect Heat For Chicken.

If your grilling things like chicken you should set your grill up for indirect grilling. You need a larger grill and you will need to have your charcoal fire in the grill over on one side and no fire on the other side. You cook your chicken over on the side where there is no fire. This won't work with a really small grill.

Before you put your chicken on the grill you want the charcoal to burn down a little and you want the grill hot. Don't add the barbecue sauce until the last 15 minutes.

You Need Delicious Homemade Coleslaw To Go With Barbecued Chicken

If your serving barbecued chicken you need delicious homemade coleslaw to go with it and this recipe is just wonderful.

Ingredients For Your Coleslaw

1. One Cup Mayonnaise.

2. 1/2 Cup White Vinegar.

3. 1 Tablespoon Dijon-Style Mustard.

4. 2 Teaspoons Sugar.

5. 1 Tablespoon Caraway Seeds.

6. Salt And Pepper To Taste.

7. 8 Cups Finely Shredded Red And Green Cabbage Mixed.

8. 1 Cup Grated Carrots.

9. 1 Cup Very Fine Sliced Purple Onion.

Combine the mayonnaise, vinegar, mustard, sugar and caraway seeds. Season with salt and pepper.

Put the cabbage, carrots, and onions in a large plastic container you have a lid for and mix well.

Add the dressing to the vegetables and mix well together. Taste for seasoning. Cover and refrigerate for 8 hours or overnight. I guarantee you that this will be some of the best slaw you will ever taste.

Corn Goes Great With Grilled Barbecue Chicken Thighs.

I like to fix skewers of red bell pepper , baby corn on the cob , and pieces of zucchini on skewers and soak those skewers in Italian Dressing for about an hour and then I grill the skewers of vegetables and serve them with the skewers of barbecue chicken. If your looking for delicious and interesting items for a tailgating party these along with the skewers of barbecue chicken are just perfect. While your skewers of vegetables are on the grill brush them with butter and sprinkle with salt and pepper. I guarantee you that people will love them.

Another way to make some delicious vegetable skewers is to thread some skewers with button mushrooms , large peeled shrimp , and green bell pepper pieces. Again soak them about a hour in Italian Dressing and sprinkle with salt and pepper while you cook them on the grill. If they appear to be drying out brush on melted butter.

I like to buy the cheese garlic bread and toast it golden brown and serve it with my skewers of barbecue chicken and vegetable skewers. I also sometimes serve yellow saffron rice with my skewers of vegetables and barbecue chicken. With the yellow saffron rice and the garlic bread you have a wonderful healthy complete meal.
