Best Local Places in Broward Part One
Have You Been To Any of the Places I Listed?
Broward Foodie to the Rescue!
I'm a born and raised Broward girl and I'd like to share with you some of my favorite places in the area. I've decided to do this in a series since there's so many types of different food to consider. In this segment I've decided to do my top 5 favorite places for food from local businesses and explain why I love going there.
Dairy Belle Ice Cream
This little gem came into my range of view once I decided to embrace my Canadian heritage. While in Canada for a family reunion, I finally got to try poutine and I fell in love. As soon as I got back to Broward I seeked out a place that had poutine on the menu.
Poutine is a French Canadian delicacy that is made up of crispy french fries, cheese curds and brown gravy. As a Foodie, it's important that the fries in the poutine are crispy so their integrity remains intact long enough before the gravy is absorbed by the bottom layer of fries. It's a great combination of textures.
They also have burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches and ice cream.
Dairy Belle Ice Cream is open Tuesday to Sunday, 11:00am to 10:00pm

Italian Sandwiches & Sorbetto
This little hole in the wall doesn't seem like much on the outside. It's squashed in between a nail salon and an edible arrangement in a strip mall in the northern curve of where Federal Highway and Sunrise BLVD meet.
It's an adorable little Italian cafe with amazing sandwiches made with fresh bread baked daily on premises. They also sell other Italian foods that you would find in a deli, as well as imported Italian packaged foods. They also make amazing homemade gelato and sorbetto daily on premise.
I love their lemon sorbetto and since I discovered it it's the only thing I'll order dessert wise. Incase you don't know what sorbetto is, it's a water and fruit based mixture whereas gelato is a dairy based mixture.
I love their turkey, pesto and fontina on ciabatta sandwich. They panini press it and now include a side of chips.
You can choose from an array of options of sandwiches and choose from ciabatta or focaccia as your bread. They also have antipasto platters, breakfast sandwiches and they also cater.

This little place is a local staple. It's always busy and is decorated with all sorts of interesting memorabilia.
I've been coming here for years and it's a staple for my family. I pretty much get the same thing every single time I go.
I alternate between two options for lunch, the bacon cheeseburger and a cheesesteak.
I'm a firm believer in simplicity when it comes to food and if you can't do the basics right, you're doing something wrong.
My decision for breakfast is always the Mom's Muffin. It's a freshly baked Kaiser roll toasted and buttered with a fried egg and bacon.
They have so many options to choose from: breakfast, burgers, subs, sandwiches, and desserts.

Grilled Cheese & Disco Fries
New York Grilled Cheese
It's always good to try new things and I found this place on my Urbanspoon app. I'm a fan of grilled cheese and I've only ever had it one way, the basic simple way we all know and love. American cheese pressed between two buttered sides of bread. New York Grilled Cheese steps it up and creates delicious gourmet grilled cheeses.
When I first went there I ordered the Wall Street Grinder Award minus the onions. It has American Cheese, fried egg, bacon, french fries and garlic butter on a toasted country loaf. It was delicious!
I also ordered the Disco Fries which is the American version of poutine. They used mozzarella cheese in place of cheese curds. It's not a bad alternative because I've used mozzarella when making homemade poutine, just gotta be sure it's fresh!
On another occasion (which I don't have a photo of) I ordered the SoHo Sweet Cheeses! grilled cheese, it's a brie cheese, caramelized onions (I opted out of those), bacon and berry marmalade on toasted oatmeal wheat bread and it's the most amazing thing you will ever put into your mouth. I love the salty sweet combo.
This is a great little place in the heart of downtown Wilton Manors and is a great place to try out.

El Jefe Lunchador
It's very hard to find good Mexican food, so when you can find a good place, well you don't pass it up. It's a very small little shop on the end of a strip mall in Deerfield Beach. It has a funky decor and limited seating.
The first time I went I got chips and queso, a pollo asada taco and a carne asada quesadilla. You have the option to have the tacos "street style" which includes onions, cilantro and tomatoes. The second time I got a chicken burrito. I personally love putting corn into my burritos and tacos so I was very happy when I bit into this bad boy.
This is my go to place for corn tortilla tacos. There's also a location in the Boca Mall.
