Best Pitchers and Drink Dispensers

Updated on November 8, 2010

On a bright, sunny day or a nice evening with friends, a good drinks pitcher comes in handy. It seems I never have one to hand, so I made it my mission to find the best ones. Turns out there are a lot of different types - some are made from plastic, some from glass, or even stainless steel. Some are cylindrical in shape, some are short and stout, some tall and thin. In fact - there is a mind boggling array of pitchers to choose from.

In any case - I tried loads of different types and managed to cut my list of pitchers and dispensers down to just four for simplicity. Any of these will work great and look good doing it. I hope you enjoy my list.

Great for big parties and large crowds, Creativeware is a large pitcher - three gallons - and has a faucet built in. The container is see-through, so you can easily judge when to refill, and the base is as solid as necessary for a dispenser of this size.

The base also doubles as a cooler - fill it with ice to keep your drinks cold as well as offer support. It is easy to clean thanks to the wide bore (which also makes filling easy)  and extremely inexpensive - Amazon sell them for less than $23.

I would not say this is going to last forever, but at the price is a very good way of serving a lot of drinks comfortably. Well worth the asking price.

This pitcher from Prodyne is no ordinary one; it allows you to turn water into a flavored, fresh and healthy drink. The secret is in its core - the infuser.Simply add fresh or frozen fruit to the infuser and top the pitcher up with water - spring water or distilled preferably.

This actually encourages you to drink more water. Leave it in the fridge and you will help ease yourself away from sodas and carbonated sweet drinks. This is a healthy alternativetop those. As the level drops, simply top it up and you always have a frresh, flavorful alternative ready.

Easy to clean - and once again made of polycarbonate, this also looks spectacular on a dining table. Very well designed - and different.

This pitcher is a great deal for anyone. It fits easily into a refrigerator and even though it is made of glass, you will be amazed with how light it is. It holds 1 1/2 quarts, so is good for family meals or having friends over.

I will say to make sure the lid is on properly, because if not, it can leak, although I don't think it will fall out while pouring. Apart from that, this is a great pitcher for the money once again.

I personally prefer glass pitchers over plastic or polycarbonate - but that is a personal preference - I don't know how true the scare mongering about plastics leeching chemicals is - but you will never have that question with a glass one.

A beautiful pitcher from Frigoverre, this is excellent for storing milk in as it completely seal able. Heavy duty glass, so - if you are worried about chemical leeching - this takes care of that. It is solid, well made and seals nice and tight, so keeping any unwanted odors out.

The lid twists open to pour and closes firm to seal. The only complaint I have about this is I find the handles a little too small - I have quite big hands. Not a huge problem, especially when I consider how good the pitcher is.

I guess you could complain that it measures in liters instead of quarts, but the makers have also started making pitchers in ounces instead now, so - not a good argument against. These are superb.
