Black Forest Cake Recipe - Best of All

Updated on July 14, 2011

This is one of my favourite desserts. If you want to please everyone around the dinner table, this cake recipe is one of the best. Whether it's a birthday cake, halloween cake or whatever kind of celebration, this black forest cake is going to fill everyone and who's going to refuse the cherries on top -- no one. The next time you go to a bakery, ask the clerk what the best selling dessert cake is and see if I'm right.

5 eggs
200 mL (3/4 cup) sugar
125 mL (1/2 cup cocoa powder
250 mL (1 cup) all purpose flour
375 mL (1 & 1/2 cups) drained, pitted cherries
1 L (4 cups) whipping cream, whipped
25 mL (2 tablespoons ) Kirsch
25 mL (2 tablespoons ) clear corn syrup
500 mL (2 cups) shaved semi-sweet chocolate
10-15 maraschino cherries for garnish

Haven't had a good black forest cake since last trip to Canada many years ago. May just have to check this out--there was a time I know I could have done it justice, maybe I'll get my daughter to make it! Bookmarked in case!
