There are many types of breakfast foods, that are eaten in different parts of the world.
In France and Italy, people typically have a light breakfast,consisting of croissants, jam and butter or a sticky bun with coffee. In Russia it is common to have pancakes for breakfast. Mediterranean morning meals, include, plain homemade yogurt, fresh cheeses, olives, tomatoes and bread dipped in olive oil. A healthy simple morning meal.
In Malaysia, which is a multi-racial country, consisting of Malays, Chinese and Indians , who each have their own breakfast preference. The Malays typically have nasi lemak for breakfast, which is, rice cooked with coconut milk and served with crispy anchovies, in spicy sambal sauce.
The Chinese people of Malaysia will usually have, noodle soup, fried noodles or rice porridge for breakfast, while the Indian-Malaysians, eat thosai, which is a savory crepe, or roti canai, a flat bread, which is eaten with fish or chicken curry, all delicious meals.
In Croatia a typical breakfast is more like a feast. It's a buffet of meats, cheeses, vegetables and breads, It is a tasty spread of Gouda cheese, fresh cheese, beef pepperoni, home smoked hams, salted dried bacon, salami, onions, tomatoes, freshly baked warm breads, that are bought from the nearby bakery every morning , butter, marmalade and strong aromatic home brewed coffee.
Eating a Croatian breakfast is a truly mouth watering experience, where you are spoiled for choice. It's a meal that takes time to be truly enjoyed, with many flavors and combinations of food to be savored.
Burek, a Savory Cheese Pastry
The younger generation of Croatia, often have, beef or cheese burek for breakfast. Burek is a savory pastry, that is popular in Mediterranean countries. Burek is made with filo pastry and has either a beef or cheese filling. It is sold in most bakeries in Croatia .
The Health Conscious Croatian
For the health conscious in Zagreb, a breakfast of salad that includes tomatoes capsicums, onions and butter lettuce, topped with extra virgin olive oil and lemon juice,and is eaten with a good warm whole meal bread, dipped in extra virgin olive oil that is bought from the near by village, and of course there is always home brewed coffee.
Croatians are big coffee drinkers. This is obvious when you walk around town center, you will see an abundance of cafes al fresco style, during the warm weather they are usually full of happy Croatians enjoying their cups of coffee.
Favorite Meal Of The Day
Lucky for me, breakfast has always been my favorite meal of the day. I enjoy a good Mediterranean breakfast, Croatian full breakfast and the classic American bacon and eggs. There are times that I can't resist a good old hokkien mee with a plate of siew bak ( Malaysian prawn noodle soup with roast pork on the side ).
When I have the time, I really go all out and indulge in a leisurely tasty morning meal. The days that I am rushing out the door, I just grab a homemade oat cookie and an apple or banana to help me start my day on the right foot.

Why We Should Eat Breakfast
Researchers have proven , that breakfast is a very important meal for adults, but especially for children. Having a good breakfast improves the child's concentration, memory and their ability to learn. Children who skip breakfast have a hard time paying attention to their teachers, and their studies, they don't have as much energy as kids who eat breakfast, they are also not as motivated or as sociable as kids who have a morning meal.
After a nights fast, our brain and muscles need nutrients, energy and glucose to function properly. The rush of nutrients and glucose to our brain and body, balances our blood sugar to improve our mood and help us have a good start to the day. Breakfast improves metabolism, if the body is starved in the morning it stores fat longer, and in turn, slows down our metabolism, which will make us gain weight. We need to balance our nutrients and blood sugar throughout the day in order to be mentally and physically fit :)
