Cake Wrecks - When professional Cake cooking goes horribly wrong! Hilarious!

Updated on March 27, 2012

Cake Wrecks and Cockups!

There is a hilarious new site, and now a book that is one of the funniest I have seen in ages. Why is it so funny? Well, put it this way, if you ordered a wedding cake, birthday cake, or just, well, a cake for any reason, and asked the so called professionals to make it 'special'. What would you expect?

Yep, exactly. You would hope for a perfectly good, respectable cake. But sometimes it seems that however great a cook you are, you don't necessarily need brains and intelligence. I mean, for instance, if you said in your order, ' I want the words, love you, in green', What would you expect to receive at your door or birthday party? I can see the puzzled expression on your face. Well obviously you would expect a cake with the words 'Love you' written in green icing. Right?

Cake Wrecks takes off.

Cake Wrecks the site, has taken off in a big way. According to The Telegraph it has already won three 'Bloggie awards. You can also follow it on Twitter. It seems that the general public find it totally hilarious that so called professionals can't do their job properly. Surely to make a special cake for an important occasion isn't that difficult. First of all you need a good cook. That's obvious. But a small smigin of intelligence would surely help too. And what about spelling? Would you like to receive a cake with the word Gril instead of Girl on it? No, didn't think so!

So here's just a few of the disasters that have made their way onto this really funny website and book, I hope you find it as funny as I did!

The cake that got the ball rolling!

Evidently this was the first cake that started the whole thing off. I am sure that you can see why! Hilarious, stupid and just plain thoughtless!

What a Welcome!

So, your starting a new job, meeting your in-laws for the first time, or maybe moving house and your very kind new neighbours want to welcome you to the neighbourhood. So you pool all your money together to get them a really special surprise. Yep, that's it, a nice big Welcome cake.

And this turns up at your door!

Ya know, this reminds me of a girl at work who was told to write an address. Because she couldn't find an address, instead of putting, Not known at this address, she actually wrote, ' I don't know this address' in the corner of the letter, stuck it in an envelope and posted it! Yes, she got the sack! Can't think why, can you?!

Welcome Where?!

Weeding out the little problems!

Now, when you get married it is supposed to be the happiest day of your life! Not much time for gardening then. Well, perhaps there is according to the makers and bakers of this cake! Oh, and I forgot to say, congratulations! Or whatever it was that they tried to write!

It seems the Bride Loves Gardening!

To do or not to do!

After the initial shock of seeing this one, I am totally puzzled by what they are exactly trying to say! Did the recipient in question get prosecuted for Harassment or were they warning him off?! Who knows, but I thought it was funny anyway!

Is this a How To cake manual?!
Is this a How To cake manual?!

Sprinkle Sprinkle Little Star!

There is nothing better on a wedding cake or birthday cake than lovely glittery sprinkles. Well, we know that! Obviously the Einstein who made this cake had never heard of the saying, or what they were. What were they thinking?

Nothing but Love

No, No, we want nothing put on the cake, No, that's fine, the meaning is in the cake itself. What? You think it's a good idea to put words on it? Why? We don't need them, honestly, it's fine.

We want nothing!

Baby Baby

Now, we all know how it feels when we are told that our friend or relative is having a baby. how fantastic is that? And soon after the baby is born, along comes the Christening. Ahh! Bless!

So what better way to celebrate this fantastic event than to, well, bake a cake!

He Said He Likes Baby Carrots!

Did you know her boyfriend is a keen gardener? No? Well there is nothing he likes better than to grow his own carrots. Especially baby carrots. I can't think of any other reason for baking a cake with babies on carrots, can you?! Maybe he is hoping his new baby will make a great gardener too!

Old Man and a Baby!

Now, I don't know how you feel about this, but would you like someone to portray your baby as a cross between an Alien and Winston Churchill? No, didn't think so! Maybe what makes it sweet is the sugar content instead!

Where's the darn money?

I know she wanted a girl, but this is a bit drastic!

Most people like to choose whether they want a girl or a boy, but of course you don't necessary get what you ask for! But surely a baby is just a baby! I mean, for goodness sake. What was the mother thinking with this cake? Was it a hint that she didn't want a boy? Or maybe this is just a typical boy, can't wait to start discovering the world. But who told him that his first paycheck was at the bottom of the cake?!

Hansel and Gretel

Now we all know the story of Hansel and Gretel. Two children who wander off into the forest and meet that horrible witch who wants to fatten them up to eat them. But surely she could have waited until the baby was a bit bigger before she decided to cook it and eat it! I mean, I know we all say, 'Ah isn't he or she beautiful, I just want to eat him'! But cooking it? That will make it just a little bit too hard to chew! Never mind, I am sure it is just the fact that they wanted to make sure that the baby was just cooked properly. Then again, maybe it was something to do with the saying, 'Mummy has got a bun in the oven'!

The baby is scrumptious!

Now, to be quite honest, this one really worries me. We have all seen the film 'The Hill's Have Eyes', where those horrible cannibal people wait in the desert to catch people and make them into, well, dessert! But surely this is going a bit far! Surely they could have waited until the baby was a bit bigger before getting ready to eat him. Seriously, can you imagine going to a christening party and having this as a cake? Who on earth is going to get a knife and slice this into little pieces? The mind boggles! The parents would have nightmares for years!

The strange world of cake baking!

So there you have a few to get your mind boggling, but be sure to come back, because I haven't finished yet!

You are not going to believe your eyes at the next batch of:

Cake Wrecks!

I LOVE Cake Wrecks! Few of my favorites include the "Push, Olivia, Push" (with that - ahem - questionable figure piping), the ones that are cupcake cakes (cupcakes iced together as a cake), and "I Want Sprinkles!" I often got asthma from laughing so heard at them!

I submitted one to the blog and it was a photo of a wedding cake with polka dots that was ugly. Here's the backstory of it: a bride wanted a cake cloaked in fondant with polka dots. But the baker have to duplicate it in buttercream because fondant tastes bad. (Sadly the baker hasn't heard of making marshmallow fondant or even buying Satin Ice.)

He then used his piping skills and duplicated the cake all right, but because of the heat and humidity the icing melted. It could have been better if he used MMF or SI, but he assumed all fondant tastes bad. The bride wanted a vow renewal ceremony with a different cake.

      Rated up, funny, and interesting!

I think some folks are just horrid spellers - we had a place here in town that had a huge sign in the window for a YEAR or more - it said "we are MOVEING" and it just stayed and stayed - but then of course this would be hicksville....we cracked up every time we drove by. At least it didn't say MOVAING....

Nell this is really funny, not just the mistakes made but the humour in how they came about.

The cake makers are obviously talented in some cases and not so in others. While some of the cakes can be attributed to a lack common sense, others well, I am not sure how some of the cake creations came about.

Thank you for making me laugh, but I do feel sorry for the givers and receivers of these creative cakes.

OMG! This is funny, but not if it happens to you! Scary! As my husband often says, "It amazes me daily that we survive as a species!"

I think these sorts of screw-ups speak to 2 things prevalent in our society: the "dumbing down" of our schools in catering to the lowest-acheivers, and the proliferation of people who have English as a second language.

Note to the Pres: NO MORE cuts to education! People already can't read!!

Fascinating read, but disturbing on another level as well.

(@ar.colton: No problems with any of the pictures for me--perhaps a browser issue?)
