Chocolate Covered Strawberries

Edible Center Piece

Chocolate covered strawberries are a long time favorite. I made these up myself over twenty years ago and have kept the basket ready to use and over again. Once the basket is set up you have a very inexpensive edible center piece. Use this time and time again as a very inexpensive party addition that requires very little time to make. Although it looks like it took hours. Adapt this to your celebration by choosing the proper container and color of chocolate. Change the appearance and the flavor with crushed candy bars, sprinkles, whatever you can envision. Add a few little american flags to make this a fourth of july treat.

What you will need:
Basket, pretty flower pot, or container that fits the occasion
Hot glue gun
Floral foam
Spanish Moss or Easter grass
Wooden barbeque screws
Green food color
Strawberries
Chocolate melts

Assemble the basket:

Screws
DO THIS SEVERAL HOURS BEFORE :
Dye the screws by laying them flat in a rectangle baking dish and mix just enough water and food color to cover the screws. Allow to dry thouroughly.

Assemble the basket:
1. Choose a foam block that fits securely in the bottom of the basket. Use the hot glue gun to adhere the foam to the container.
2. Top the foam with Spanish moss or Easter basket grass.

Strawberries:
1.Wash the strawberries and make certain they are dried by patting them with a paper towel. The chocolate will not stick to them if they are damp.
2. Melt the chocolate according to package directions
3. One at a time pierce strawberries in the stem end and dip into the chocolate. Push the screwed strawberry in the basket to dry.

When you are finished with the basket store it securely in a plastic bag to be reused again.

A basket of chocolate covered strawberries as a centerpiece is a great idea. Bet it wouldn't last long, but beats throwing out wilted flowers days later after the party. I love this idea. Voted very useful and shared!

With no shame, hitting nerves with words all in the name of providing food for thoughts... And again, all within their precious terms of service rules... No f'n profanity here... And I did share a bit of humor today... Unless one actually is a fanatic for those delicious tasting chocolate covered snails that I passing out earlier... Hi Angela,

Good idea! We were recently given an Edible Arrangements gift basket filled with fruit and some of them like the strawberries were dipped in chocolate. I should have kept the basket and skewers as it was already set up with the foam, etc. instead of donating it. Oh well...next time...or make my own such as you suggested. Voted up and useful. I can almost taste those lucious chocolate dipped strawberries now! :)
