Enjoy A Merry Christmas Cocktail !

The holiday season is upon us and we are planning our parties, whether it be a dinner party, Christmas Party or of course the classic house party for New Years Eve. Besides making out the food menu, we need to plan what spirits we will need to make Christmas Cocktails for our guests. After all what would a party be without a few cocktails for a little "holiday cheer!

First think about what cocktails you would like to make, then write the list of spirits you will need. Try to choose spirits that can make a few different drinks and mix easily with one or more other spirits. Be sure to have a variety of juices on hand such as, orange juice, tomato or V-8 juice, lemon & lime, cranberry juice and any other juice you like. Also you will need soda, basically Ginger ale, Sprite, Coke, club soda. You will also want to have beer and wine on hand as well for people that don't want mixed drinks.

When I host my parties I like to be the Bartender, as I Bartended some years ago. I can socialize and tend bar at the same time.

So lets start with our checklist:

My choice for Cocktails for my party are going to be simple, because I am going to basically be using only a few choice spirits. Most people don't want complicated or really fancy mixed drinks when they are at a house party. So simple is really better. And of course you don't want to spend a fortune on liquor either, and it is expensive. It is a good idea to have bar tending equipment and an ice bucket, plus the right glasses for the mixed drinks. Also have an area that you can set up the bar, unless you have your own well stocked bar in your home, and that's cool. Anyway onto the cocktails.

Liquor Store List:

**Vodka **Gin

Grocery Store List:

1 Gallon of whole milk, or 2% milk

1 pint of half and half

1 container of Hersey's Chocolate syrup ( but any brand will do )

1 small jar of instant coffee ( a good brand is best)

1 Gallon of Orange Juice

1 Bottle each, lemon and lime juice

1 Bottle of sour mix

1 Bottle of Tomato or V-8 juice,( actually you will probably need a few). I like V-8 juice myself, as it has more flavor.

1 Bottle of Cranberry juice

1 Bottle each, worcestchire and tabasco sauce

1 jar of horseradish sauce

1 bottle of vanilla extract

1 bottle of coconut extract

1, 2 liter at least of each of these sodas: Coke, Sprite, Ginger Ale, Club soda, Tonic water

Okay now we can start mixing drinks. Let us start by making homemade Irish Cream Liqueur. My personal favorite! I look forward to making this every year. And once in a while I will make it as a special treat for myself.

*** Irish Cream Liqueur:

** 1 pint of half & half

** 1 ( 14 ounce ) can of sweetened condensed milk

** 1 teaspoon of instant coffee, a good brand is the best choice.

** 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

** 1 teaspoon of coconut extract

** 2 tablespoons of chocolate syrup ( I like Hershey's)

** 1 1/4 cup of Irish Whiskey ( use a regular kitchen measuring cup )

All you have to do is place everything in a blender and mix well. Put the Irish cream into a container and store in the refrigerator. Makes about 4 cups, so you will want to double or triple the recipe according to how much Irish Cream you will need.

*** Bloody Mary:

1 shot glass of Vodka

*** Daiquri Cocktail :

3/4 glass of lemon juice

splash of lime juice

Add a stirrer and just mix.

*** Kamikaze:

Rock glass

Mixing shaker ( with ice )

1 shot glass of Vodka

1 shot glass of Triple Sec

1 shot glass of Lime juice

Shake all the ingredients, strain into a rock glass over ice.

*** Fuzzy Navel :

Highball glass ( with ice )

1 shot glass of Peach Schnapps

1/2 shot of Vodka

Fill the glass with Orange juice and stir.

Black Russian :

Try my avocado smoothie recipe for the seniors. It's good and good for them if there are any chewing issues.

Lucy - Awesome recipes...the orgasm drink sounds FABULOUS. Voted up, useful, and awesome. Unfortunately though, we tend to just go with a bottle of wine or holiday beer...keep it simple and keep others from getting a little too wasted. ;)
