Natural Coconut Water

Coconut juice and coconut water are exactly the same thing. It is the clear liquid that is found in young coconuts that is a very popular drink. Coconut milk, however, is a different thing as it is made up of the pulp of the coconut itself.

The coconut juice needs to be extracted from the young coconut before it matures as later on it will be absorbed by the fruit/meat of the coconut. It can be drunk straight from the young coconut itself or is now popular as a packaged drink as the demand for natural products increases.

Although there have been many claims about coconut water, from what I have found, not many of them have actually been tested or substantiated. However, it has been confirmed that coconut water does contain good amounts of potassium and minerals. Added to that coconut water is low in fat, calories and carbohydrates so is suitable for many kinds of diet or just a great all round healthy drink.

Added to that it can be a great option of you are looking for a natural drink, something that is not carbonated but is healthy. Sometimes it is difficult to find a non-carbonated soft drink that you can just pick up off the shelf.

Buying Coconut Water

Unless you live in an areas where there are lots of coconuts found naturally, and even if you do then they are really tough things to get into unless you have the right tools, then you may have to buy pre-packaged coconut water. Generally these are sold in cans or in tetrapak type cartons.

When buying packaged coconut water, it is worth checking to see what added ingredients there are. Some will contain added sugar or sucrose, some will contain preservatives and there may be added salt to make it into something that resembles more of an 'energy' drink. Some also have added pieces of coconut purely for flavor reasons so check if you are buying the smooth or the version with pulp.

Coconut juice that comes in cartons tends to have less in the way of preservatives and added sugar but obviously always check the ingredients list. However, there is often not a great choice of different types of coconut water unless you actually have a well stocked health food store nearby.

When buying coconut juice, this is one place that Amazon comes into its own. It has a large selection of coconut water both in cartons and in cans. They are usually sold in packs of 12 so that the price can be kept very reasonable and you can often get them delivered for free.

I have listed below some of the options that are available from Amazon including one that was recommended to me as the best and most healthy option with no additives, just 100% natural coconut water.

O.N.E. Coconut Water, 11.2-Ounce Aseptic Containers (Pack of 12)

This coconut water was recommended to me by someone who is very involved in holistic medicine. With no preservatives or artificial ingredients you know you are getting a completely natural product.

Buying Coconut Water in the UK

It seems that it is harder to get coconut water in the UK than it is in the US (and other countries). In the hot countries that I have travelled to it is a very popular drink but not so much in the UK. However, there is still a good choice of coconut water to be had on Amazon UK. My choice is Cocofina Natural Coconut Water but there are plenty of other options to choose from in different size packs.

I have thought about buying some coconut water and wondered where to buy the best quality. I know how difficult it is to crack a coconut and drain the liquid. Thanks for informing us about the options available and letting us know that some brands actually add other ingredients.
