Updated on April 28, 2008

Zov: Recipes and Memories from the Heart by Zov Karamardian is a unique cookbook filled with delicious recipes that reflect the author's Armenian heritage and innovating cooking style.

The book opens with an interesting introduction that puts Zov's unqiue cooking style, background, and approach to preparing healthful and delicious meals into perspective. You'll find out about the family traditions that lead to Zov's love for cooking, her family's move to America from the Middle East, and the events that led her to start what has become an enormously successful restaurant that she's operated for more than 20 years. You'll also enjoy reading and learning from the overview of what the author refers to as pantry essentials.

As beautiful as it is practical, Zov: Recipes and Memories from the Heart is adorned with stunning food photography images and a wealth of easy-to follow, appealing recipes with a unique Mediterranean flair.

Favorite Recipes

With so many delicious dishes in this cookbook, it's hard to narrow my choices down to just a few favorites. So many of the recipes presented in this book are things I've wanted to learn to make for quite some time. I was pleasantly surprised to discover just how easy it can be to make some of my favorite Middle Eastern dishes.

My favorites include:

  • Angel Hair Pasta with Tomatoes, Feta, and Pine Nuts
  • Chicken Marsala with Fusilli Pasta
  • Eggplant and Avocado Salsa
  • Heirloom Tomato Salad with Grilled Eggplant and Peppers
  • Rice Pilaf with Lentils and Caramelized Onions
  • Roasted Tomato and Eggplant Soup
  • Salmon Plaki with Vegetables and White Beans
  • Vine Ripened Roast Tomato Basil Soup
