Food value of an Egg
A hen's egg is about 55 to 60 gm in weight and bears of 10% outer layer shell, 60% egg white or albumin and 30% is yellow egg yolk. The outer shell is made of of calcium carbonate, the egg white is made up of protein in the form of albumin which is of high nutritive value.approx(11% proteins.) and also a good source of riboflavin. The egg yolk is mainly fat in an emulsified form, which can be digested and assimilated in the body, yolk also contains 1.33gm of cholesterol / 100 gm. It is also good source of vitamin A, B, calcium, phosphorus, lecithin and iron.,thus fulfilling nearly all our nutritive requirement .
A pregnant women must eat an egg every day to give birth to a very healthy child and also have strength to bear the strain of child birth and child rearing
A recipe of country omelet:-
1 1/4 cup water
3/4 tsp salt (may vary according to taste)
1/4 cup green peas
one medium sized potato (peeled and cut into small cubes)
1/4 cup onion chopped
2 green chilies finely chopped
1 tablespoon butter
black pepper 1/4 tsp
method to make the omelet :-
- Boil water and salt in a pan add peas and potatoes,.cover and cook on a low flame till the vegetables become tender .then drain the water and keep it aside .
- Beat eggs with a fork till just blended .add chopped chilies onions and vegetable, salt and pepper ,mix it well.
- Heat the pan on medium flame for 2 minutes and then put butter and when it spread and sizzle .reduce heat and now quickly stir the eggs and the vegetables and pour them in the frying pan .when sides start setting lift the omelette and flip it when it starts getting light brown tilt the pan and place it onto the plate .serve it with tomato sauce ,
